O'CONNOR EDWARD Age 77, of West Deer Township, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017, at UPMC - Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born May 5, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Timothy and Irene (Gearing) O'Connor. Also, preceding him in death, brothers, Timothy O'Connor, Jr., Thomas O'Connor; and son, Mark O'Connor. Edward was a Lawyer with Eckert Seamans for 52 years. Uncomfortable with "retirement", Ed went to work for Moran & Moran Law Firm in Wexford until his sudden passing. Ed was a member of the Duquesne Club and of Wildwood Country Club. He loved watching Penguins hockey and traveling, namely, to Naples, FL and Hilton Head, SC. However, Ed truly cherished his work and was proud of his service in the community. Honesty and Integrity were at the heart of everything Ed accomplished. He was proud that his "Word was bond." Among his many community contributions were, Hampton Township Planning Commission, Chair of Hampton Township Zoning Hearing Board, Director and member of the Audit, Compliance & Compensation Committees of Federated Investors, Inc., Council for the Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale, Trustee of the Noble J. Dick Educational Foundation, St. Francis Health System Board of Directors, Board of Directors for St. Francis Plaza, Inc., Board of Directors of Duquesne University and the Executive Committee of the Board and Chair of the Student Life Committee of the Board. Included amongst his many recognitions are Recipient of 2012 President's Award from the Allegheny Bar Association, Central Catholic High School 2011 Distinguished Alumnus in Law Award, St. Thomas More Society 2008 Award at the Annual Red Mass, the Caritas Award of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, 2003, Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Duquesne Law and Review and the Duquesne Law Alumni Association, Century Club of Distinguished Alumnus and recipient of the McAnulty Service Award from Duquesne University, and Allegheny County Bar Foundation Fellows Program which annually awards an honorary membership in Edward O'Connor's name to recognize attorneys who show a commitment to excellence in charitable, community, professional and public service activities. Ed truly used his hard work and talents to make his community a better place. He is survived by his Wife, Janet Showalter O'Connor, of West Deer Twp; Daughter, Susan (Brett) Rothmeyer of Highland Park; Grandchildren, Colby O'Connor, of California, PA; Aiden and Elise Rothmeyer of Highland Park. HOLZWORTH BARRY LEE Age 66, of Waynesburg, PA, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, December 31, 2017, at the home of his friends, Gary and Donna Whipkey, in Graysville, PA. He was born Tuesday, October 23, 1951, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Clayton Holzworth and Dolores Fuchs Holzworth. Mr. Holzworth was a graduate of Keystone Oaks High School. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved restoring classic cars and spending time with his Beagle, Harley. He was a longtime employee of Burns Tire in Waynesburg where he worked as an auto mechanic. His wife, Christine E. Aiken Holzworth, whom he married on October 12, 1975, died March 24, 2004. Surviving are three sons: Regis L. Holzworth and his wife, Karen of Steubenville, OH, Michael C. Holzworth, and his wife, Thea of Pittsburgh, PA, and Casey L. Holzworth, and his wife, Kelly of Saratoga Springs, NY; four grandchildren: Addison, Ryan, Emma, and Arlo Holzworth; four sisters: Barbara Robison, of Lakeland, FL, Beverly Gaffney, of Cranberry, PA, Bonnie Knoche, of Erie, PA, and Beth Holzworth, of Erie, PA; two brothers: Bradley Holzworth and Bruce Holzworth, both of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces and nephews. KIPROFF PETER On Saturday, December 30, Peter Kiproff, Oakmont, formerly of Churchville, PA, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years. Peter was the loving and caring husband of Vicki Kiproff, (deceased, 2013) and proud father of Peter N. Kiproff (Ann), Germantown, TN, and Paul M. Kiproff, M.D. (Diane), Pittsburgh; grandfather (Grandpa) of Alex, Lauren, Andrew, and Nicholas Kiproff; brother-in-law (Thomas McDonagh) and beloved uncle to his niece and nephews. Peter enjoyed a full, long and productive life. His career as a Professional Engineer spanned 60 years, with countless hours given to volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, the elderly and his church. Peter was well known for using his knowledge and ability to fashion a repair or design a solution for any problem. He enjoyed his time spent in a metal or wood shop and also took great pleasure from gardening. Peter was born in Ottawa, CA, moved to the United States at the age of 2, and grew up in New York City. He graduated from the Pratt Institute with his engineering degree, working most of his professional life in the aerospace industry developing and testing jet and rocket engines for NASA during the exciting era of the Space Race. He received honors and much recognition for his contributions. He was a member of St. John Orthodox Church, New Kensington. Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Vicki Fitsames Kiproff; his sister, Mignon Holz, (Fayetteville, NY); and parents, Pando and Fania Kiproff. Peter will be deeply missed by his family. A private ceremony will take place Friday, at St. Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary, West Chester, New York. VASSILAROS GEORGE L. Peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2017. Loving husband of Stella; devoted father of Dr. Leon (Dr. Maria Sarmas) Vassilaros and George (Maria Saphos) Vassilaros; cherished Papou of Matina, Tia (Christian) Klay, George and Sam. George was raised in Cairo/Maadi, Egypt during British rule. He had home schooling from Mrs. Despina Phoutrides Lahovarry. His music teacher, Marie Perpataro, wished to make him a pianist. He did love music and played all his life to relax. After George graduated from Ambetios High School, he became a foreign exchange student at the University of Detroit where he earned both his BA and MS degrees. In 1951, George met his wife, Stella Loizos, while in Ikaria. During that summer, George met many people whom he maintained friendship with for 60 years. On June 7, 1953, George and Stella wed. In 1956 he was hired as a chemist with Crucible Specialty Metals, where he worked his way up to Chief Chemist and developed several patents in the field of emissions spectroscopy. George was a person who would give you a straight answer. If he could help you, he would. He was active in and assisted with the development of the Pan-Icarian Foundation and served as the Supreme Lodge President for four terms. George was also professionally involved in the Analytical Society of Pittsburgh and the Spectroscopy Society, which make up the Pittsburgh Conference. In 1988 he became President of the Pittsburgh Conference and stayed involved with the conference for many years after retirement. GIACOMINO CAROLE (MAGNUS) GALISIN Age 75, a Sewickley resident most of her recent life, passed away on Monday, New Years Day 2018. Carole, born in McKeesport on December 23, 1942, was one of three to the late Joseph and Agnes (Berta) Magnus. Beloved wife for 27 years to Chester “Chet” Giacomino; loving mother of Carla Galisin, Michael Galisin (Trina) all of Sewickley and Lisa Berger (Steve) of Shaler; cherished grandmother of Josh and Emily; sister of the late Jerry Magnus and Eugene Magnus; numerous nieces and nephews. Carole was a member of St. James Church, a Women's Guild Board Member and member of the Hinges and Twinges swimming club at Sewickley YMCA. Carole previously worked as a travel agent for Frontiers International Travel where she managed The South America Program. She loved to travel with her family. With a twinkle in her eye and laughter, Carole would light up the whole room. Carole was fun to be around and will be greatly missed by family and friends. UHRINE NORMA (CARPENTER) Age 82, of Moon Twp, passed away on December 31, 2017 in West Hills Health & Rehab, Moon Twp. She was born on November 24, 1935 in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of the late Buford and Dorothy (Bolin) Carpenter. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband of over 62 years, John Robert Uhrine in 2016. As well as a brother, Jerry Carpenter. Norma is survived by her three sons, Robert J. Uhrine, Maryland, William M. Uhrine, Coraopolis, Barry A. Uhrine, Virginia. A brother, William Carpenter and a sister, Elizabeth Byrd. Norma was a loving wife and devoted mother to her three sons. She and her late husband were long time, faithful members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Moon Township. All services are private.
