KAUFMANN DONALD L. Age 88, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Pittsburgh, on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. He was the beloved brother of Barbara Cotton of Pittsburgh and David (Orva) Kaufmann of Gainesville, FL. Loving uncle of Alan Cotton, Laura Ott, Arlene Guastella, Paul Cotton, Becky Shea and Kevin Kaufmann and their families. Professor Kaufmann received his doctorate in English from the University of Iowa in 1965. He taught at the University of Alaska before accepting a position in the English department at the University of South Florida in 1969, where he taught for more than four decades. He is the author of two landmark studies on Norman Mailer, Norman Mailer: The Countdown (Southern Illinois UP, 1969) and Norman Mailer: Legacy and Literary Americana (Scholars' Press, 2014). He was an avid reader who had a great passion for the written word. He will be forever remembered as a respected teacher, loyal brother and talented writer. Service and Interment private.
