CARRICK ANN EWING Of Somers, New York, died on October 2, 2015, at Northern Westchester Hospital, after a short illness. She was 78 years old. Known to many by the nickname "Roonie," she was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 23, 1937. She was the daughter of Meredyth H. and Betty T. Ewing. She attended The Ellis School in Pittsburgh, then Chatham Hall boarding school in Chatham, Virginia. She graduated from Garland Junior College in Boston, Massachusetts in 1957, with an Associate's degree in early childhood education. After graduation she moved to New York City, where she taught kindergarten at Brooklyn Friends School. In 1961, she married Bruce R. Carrick. They lived in New York City for several years, and moved to Westchester County after their first child was born in 1964. Ann was a dedicated wife and mother, and a wonderful cook and hostess. She spent nearly every summer of her life at Rocky Reef, an extended lakeside property in Ontario, Canada, associated with her family since the 1890s. She is survived by her husband; and their three children, a daughter, Meredyth Carrick Sanderson and two sons, Charles L. and James B. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Virginia Sanderson and Findlay and Tobias Carrick. A private memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford, New York.
