DURKIN MARGARET QUISH Passed away, on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at home, surrounded by family. Born August 7, 1931, to Irish immigrants in Chicago, Peg grew up in Sterling, Illinois. A University of Illinois graduate (1953), she worked as a social worker for the Red Cross and the Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago until her marriage to James A. Durkin in 1959. While raising her children in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, she worked on a master's degree in child development at Wayne State University and taught elementary school. Later in life, she started an antiques business named the Duntryleague Shop in honor of her Irish homestead. Through frequent family visits, Peg maintained close ties with her many Quish cousins in Ireland. In retirement, she and Jim divided their time between Ann Arbor, Michigan and Sarasota, Florida. She was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Lodge; and brothers, Thomas and Martin Quish. Survivors include her husband, Jim; and children, Tom Durkin (Laura), Erin Durkin and Carey Treado (Patrick). She was a much beloved Peggi/Little Poppi/Monkee to her grandchildren, Kelsy, Grace, Jack, Katherine, Jackson, James, Conor and Josie. Peg was loved by many for her quick laugh, kind words and Shakespeare quotes: sleep, perchance to dream
for in that sleep what dreams may come. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015, at St. Bede Church in Pittsburgh at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions are welcome with the Detroit chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Arrangements by JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., (freyvogelfuneralhome.com). Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
