MCGINNIS GEORGE FRANKLIN, JR. ...

McGINNIS GEORGE FRANKLIN, Jr. Age 91, of Dravosburg, formerly of McKeesport, passed on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at Sunrise of Upper St. Clair Senior Living. He was born July 16, 1924, in McMechen, WV to the late George F. McGinnis, Sr. and Alma Long McGinnis. George was the loving husband of 64 years to the late Alice (Honeygirl) Proch McGinnis. He is survived by sons, Scott (Debra) McGinnis of Greenville, SC, Rick (Stacy) McGinnis of Mechanicsburg, PA and Craig (Cindy) of Elizabeth, PA. Also mourning his passing are his ten grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Melissa, Shannon, Seth, Ashley, Chloe, Ian, Cullen, Abigail; and five great- grandchildren, Momoka, Ayuka, Harper, Lila and August. Along with his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his youngest son, Chris McGinnis. He was a 1942 graduate of McKeesport High School, went to Northwestern University, a naval enlistee serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII, and a survivor of The Callaghan (a destroyer sunk by kamikaze aircraft). Following his discharge, George remained active in the US Naval Reserve for 44 years, retiring as an E9 Master Chief. He worked as a boilermaker at US Steel Irvin Works for 38 years. George was a very active member of the White Oak American Legion, VFW Dravosburg, a lifelong member of the Dravosburg #2 VFC, a Dravosburg Justice of the Peace for several years, a Master Mason and 32nd degree of the Wilson Masonic Lodge in Dravosburg, a lifelong member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon where he was a longtime Drill Sargent for their color guard, a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in McKeesport, an avid golfer, loved talking about his family's ancestry and his travels with the Navy and had an incredible sense of humor. Family and friends will be received at I. M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th Street, Dravosburg, PA 15034 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015. Service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow service at West Newton Cemetery and Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant St., Pgh., PA 15219 in George's name.
