MADEJA DONNA LOU (COURTNEY) Surrounded by her loving family, Donna, of Zelienople (formerly of Mt. Washington), returned home to our Lord after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, November 28, 2015, 15 days shy of her 66th Birthday. Daughter of the late Catherine and Donald; eldest sister of Darlane (John) Snodgrass of Benbrook, Texas, Dennis (Beth) Courtney of Virginia Beach, Debbie (Robert) Hawthorne of Duchesne, UT, and Darrell Courtney of Pittsburgh. Donna is survived by her daughter, Melissa Missy (Joaquin) Lopez of Harmony; and her son, Michael (Stacy) of Pittsburgh. Donna was the proud grandmother of Lorena and Marcos, Michael, Sophia, and Shawn; along with several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her significant other, Joe Mlinac; and former husband, George. Donna retired in 2011, after more than 40 years from the United States Postal Service, working at GMF, Southside, Mt. Oliver, Mt. Washington, eventually reaching the Gateway Station location for several years until retirement. Donna was an outgoing, strong-willed and caring person who always displayed devotion to her family and friends. After beating breast cancer in the late 90s, Donna's perspective on life changed and she always loved to seize the moment and take on a new adventure. Once diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Debbie's devotion to her big sister was undeniable as she would travel to and from Utah to spend time with Donna. Donna endured chemotherapy, radiation, Whipple surgery and then more chemotherapy with a positive attitude and inner strength. Unfortunately, after two years, she became too weak to continue her fight. A special thanks to family and friends for their prayers and support and to the various health care professionals for their diligent work while giving her care. Friends and family are welcomed on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 1-8 p.m. at the THOMAS J. GMITER FUNERAL HOME, 2323 E. Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203-2109. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donna's name to Sharing and Caring, Inc. or Calvin Presbyterian Church of Zelienople, PA. www.thomasjgmiterfh.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
