
SNYDER HOWARD WILLIAM Age 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. Howard was born in Pittsburgh, PA and attended city schools. After service in the Navy, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea, he graduated from Thiel College in 1953, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Howard began his career with Nabisco, Inc., working in the Personnel Office of the Company's bakery in Pittsburgh, PA. During the first two decades of his career, Howard held several positions focused on Training and Development, Labor Relations and Human Resources. These positions took him from Pittsburgh, PA to San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY. Howard returned to Corporate Headquarters in New York City to lead the Corporate Labor Relations function. Upon graduation from the Harvard University Advanced Management Program, he was appointed Executive Director of Nabisco's Human Resource Department. He was subsequently elected Vice President of Human Resource. With the merger of Nabisco and Standard Brands, Howard became Vice President, Industrial Relations. Howard was active in community affairs, serving on the boards of the Morris County New Jersey Chapter of the American Red Cross, the United Way of New Jersey, the Planning Committee of the Morris County New Jersey Urban League. He also served on the Business Advisory Counsel of the Graduate School of Business of Fairleigh Dickinson University, in Madison, New Jersey. In 1990, Howard retired from RJR Nabisco, Inc. and returned to Greenville, PA, the home of his Alma mater. In 1991, Howard was appointed Adjunct Professor, Department of Accounting and Business Administration at Thiel College. During his five-year educational career, Howard taught upper level business school courses, business courses off Campus for the Center for Lifelong Learning and non-credit courses for the Entrepreneurship: Developing A Small Business Program. Howard served as a member of the Thiel's Creativity Committee and as a Board Member of the Thiel Enterprise Institute. Howard was active in the establishment and operation of the Thiel Business Advisory Board and was a participating lecturer in Thiel's program with the Russian banking industry. In 1995, Howard was awarded the Thiel Alumni Service Award. Howard was a life member of Orient Lodge No. 683, F. & A. M. and a past member of the Syria Temple of the Shrine. Howard moved to Madison, WI in 2011. Ever the educator at heart, Howard started the Armchair Adventurers lecture program and the Our Music video program at his place of residence, the Sauk Gardens senior community. Howard was an avid fisherman, golfer, photographer and woodworker. Howard is survived by his four children and three grandchildren; Howard's son, Scott K. Snyder, his spouse, Kathleen E. Vos (Madison, WI) and their son, Theodore A. V. Snyder (North Chicago, IL); Howard's son, William H. Snyder of New Jersey; Howard's daughter, Cindy E. Asta, her spouse, Joseph L. Asta, their son, Vincent J. Asta and their daughter, Alana J. Asta of Newtown, PA; Howard's son, C.J. Snyder of St. John, FL. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and his former wife, Margaret Evelyn Gentile Snyder. Howard's family extends thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at UW Health, Attic Angels and Agrace Hospice. The outstanding care and support Howard received is greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held on a later date, at Restland Memorial Park Association, East Hanover, NJ.
