KASKIN Dr. JAMES R. Dr. James R. Kaskin passed away unexpectedly at home in San Francisco on Nov. 10, 2015. He was born June 15, 1944, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Catherine Kaskin. Dr. Kaskin graduated from Johns Hopkins University and went on to receive his medical degree from The University of Pittsburgh. In college he participated in ROTC and then served in the Army rising to the rank of captain. Dr. Kaskin had a distinguished medical career first in private practice for many years in Colusa, CA before becoming an emergency room physician at Hayward Hospital in San Francisco. He is survived by his sister, Joan Probala of Seattle; nieces, Julie Goco of Winston-Salem, NC, Jennifer VanGorder of San Rafael, CA, and Jeanna Wenger of Bend, OR; and nephew, Jason Probala of Indianapolis, IN; and a cousin, Ruth Thon of Monroeville, PA; and a host of friends and colleagues. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed entertaining his friends with stories fueled by his exceptional knowledge and wit. It was not uncommon to hear him described as brilliant but more importantly, as a unique character loved by all who knew him. To his family he was "Uncle Doc". He generously supported many charities and organizations. With his trusted feline companion "Riley" he was especially generous to the lion exhibit at the San Francisco Zoo. He will be remembered for his love of anything Star Trek and his wish to everyone would be "Live long and prosper."
