DUNIK BLANCHE “MISSY” DIED TUE...

DUNIK BLANCHE “MISSY” Died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the age of 91 as a resident of Concordia in Fox Chapel. Blanche was the first of ten children, was born of Marion and Bernarda (Kwolek) Gasiorowski May 16, 1924. Missy worked as a Pittsburgh crossing guard at the corner of 14th and Sarah Sts. for over 30 years and was a lifelong resident of South Side of Pittsburgh. Blanche married Michael “Do” Dunik and gave birth to two daughters, Linda and Patricia “Cookie”. Sadly her husband, a veteran, died in 1953 and on her own she raised the two girls who were just 18 months and four years old. You could often find Blonk in her kitchen, taking care of her dogs, reading a mystery novel or the newspaper or listening to the radio. She enjoyed getting dressed up and going shopping downtown. She was a wonderful mom and grandmother to her family. Had a good sense of humor and many admired her for her strength of character. She said “I am too easy going” and she had a strong faith and love for Jesus. Her daughter, Linda, is married to Ken Surdick and Cookie is married to Dennis O'Neill. Blanche has five grandchildren, Heather (Jared) Miller, Rachel (Kevin) Schaffer, Lauren (Roy) Howard, Michael O'Neill and Sarah O'Neill. She has seven great-grandchildren, Gracie, Ella, Luke, Natalia, Chloe, Lily and Scarlett. Blanche had nine brothers and sisters and is survived by Rose Nachylowski, Mary Serzen, Sophie Pielin, Michael (Joan) Gasiorowski, and Helen (John) Vensak, Jessie Parrish and Tony, Dolores and Johnny Gasiorowski have predeceased her. Blanche has many nieces and nephews. Friends and family are received Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at the JOHN J. GMITER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 119 S. 15th St., Pgh., PA 15203. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Parish, St. Adalbert Church, 160 S. 15th St., at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
