MOEBS NOEL N. AGE 90, HUSBAND ...

MOEBS NOEL N. Age 90, husband of Marjorie Hall Moebs; father of Linda Moebs of Grantsville, MD and Norman Dana Moebs of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Also survived by two grandchildren, Daniel Moebs of Richmond, VA and Bethany Moebs of Greenville, SC. Mr. Moebs was born in Washington, DC, served in Europe during World War II as an observer with the 294th Field Artillery during the Battle of the Bulge. The 294th was moved to the front after Battery B of the 285th Field Artillery Observation Battalion was wiped out near Malmedy, Belgium, by a unit of Jochen Peiper's Panzer Regiment. The 294th was then advanced to the Elbe River line and ended up in Lubeck on the Baltic Sea. He was a graduate of West Virginia University, was employed as a geologist by Bethlehem Steel Corp., The New Jersey Zinc Company, and retired from the US Bureau of Mines in Bruceton, PA. He was author of over 24 research publications on mining geology. Mr. Moebs received an award for the stewardship of public lands in 1990 and an award for meritorious service from the US Department of the Interior for Mining Research in 1991. He was a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers and an Elder in the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. He served on the board of the Pleasant Hills Arboretum, the Oliver Miller Homestead Associates in South Park and the Braddock Road Preservation Association in Jumonville. Mr. Moebs was an avid collector of antique American glass and furniture and a dedicated reader of American history. Family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, January 9, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday, January 10, 2016, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pleasant Hills, PA 15236. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Noel's name may be made to the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, the Oliver Miller Homestead Associates, or the Pleasant Hills Arboretum.
