EVANCHO DOROTHY M. (SUDIA) Mrs. Dorothy Marie (Sudia) Evancho, 96, of Turtle Creek, passed away gently of natural causes, on December 21, 2015. One of eight children, she was born to Theodore and Paraska Sudia, on August 28, 1919, in Ambridge, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings; her beloved husband of 68 years, Nicholas Evancho; and a child, James Paul. She is survived by five children, Thomas Evancho (Shannon) of Turtle Creek, David Evancho, of Cheswick, PA, Kathleen (Peter) Chmelir, of Camarillo, CA, Janet Evancho, of Spokane, WA, and Christina (Kurt) Zander, of New Hope, PA; and six grandchildren, David Chmelir, Susan Chmelir Dickstein, Malia Evancho, Lauren Evancho Stanger, Nicholas Cemenenkoff and Grace Zander. Mrs. Evancho lived in Turtle Creek her entire adult life and raised her family as a devoted wife and mother. An avid reader and advocate of higher education, she introduced classic literature to young people as a Great Books Leader and served as a Den Mother and Cub Scout Leader when her children were school aged. She was an accomplished seamstress, adventurous cook and loved to crochet and design crafts. Once her family was raised, Mrs. Evancho worked in the linen department at Joseph Hornes at Monroeville Mall for many years until she finally retired in her late 70s. The family would like to express gratitude to the nurses and staff at LGAR Health & Rehabilitation Center in Turtle Creek for the care and kindness shown to their mother. A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
