YERGER JOHN DOUGLAS, Jr. “DOUG” Age 87, of O'Hara Twp., passed away at his home on Monday, July 27, 2015. Doug was a veteran in the U.S. Navy, a graduate from MIT and had a 40-year career as a metallurgist at ALCOA. Son of the late John Douglas Yerger, Sr. and Elsa Schlippert. He married the late Virginia Anne “Jinny” Lowell in 1950. He is survived by his son, John D. Yerger III and his wife, Leslie; and his grandchildren, Evan, Julia and Megan, all of Hawthorn Woods, IL; his sister, Grace Yerger Landers of Littleton, CO; and his companion, Connie Hall. Doug was known for service above self, acting as Warden and treasurer for several churches as he and his family moved around the United States and to Swansea, Wales. After retiring from ALCOA, Doug worked with Habitat for Humanity renovating homes in the Pittsburgh area. He was an avid carpenter and woodworker. He was an avid tennis player throughout his life from his high school team in his hometown of Reading, PA through 40 years at the Fox Chapel Racquet Club. He was also a proud member of the Fox Chapel Navy. The family will receive friends Friday, August 7, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at the WEDDELL - AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave., Aspinwall. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Fox Chapel, 630 Squaw Run Road, East. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity, 212 Yost Blvd., Suite A, Pgh., PA 15221-4818 or the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Dr., Pgh., PA 15205.
