
MARVIN FRED Died peacefully on July 31, 2015, three days short of his 99th birthday. He was born on August 3, 1916, in Clover Run, PA, the second child and first son of Felix and Joanna Marino. He grew up in a mining town called Number 8, four miles west of Punxsutawney, PA, with his five sisters and one brother. He graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1933. He began a lifelong career in the food business in 1935. He eventually moved into sales, which would define his life's work. He received numerous awards throughout his career and was active in the National Association of Manufacturers. He continued work in the food business in various ways up through age 96. Fred moved to Pittsburgh in 1936 and married Catherine Lyon in 1942. He and Kitty had two sons, Gary and Douglas. Fred and Kitty spent all of their married lives in Pittsburgh. Kitty died in May 1977. Fred married Charlotte Walsh in 1978. Charlotte and Fred lived in Florida for most of their married lives. Charlotte died in August 2014. Fred then relocated back to Pittsburgh in September 2014. Fred is survived by his sons, Gary (Rita) Marvin, Louisville, KY, and Douglas (Angela) Marvin, Bethel Park, PA; a brother, Herman Marino, Chicago, IL; granddaughters, Mariangela (Nathan) Peters, Teriangela (Taylor) Abbett; six great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by stepchildren, Maureen Palermo, Charlotte Fowler, Richard Walsh, Jr., Daniel Walsh, and Michael Walsh, all of Miami, FL; as well as numerous step- grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren. Fred was a devout Catholic and participated in many church sponsored activities and ministries over the years. He was a longtime church usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. During his retirement, he was a volunteer at a local school and hospital, as well as a volunteer at The Rose Garden, a pro-life second-hand store in Naples, FL. He was a friend to many people over the years and had kept written and telephone communication with many of them. He enjoyed encouraging people to be their best selves. He was a person of humble beginnings who attributed his successes to the power of prayer and the love of God. He wanted to live a long and productive life, and this was granted to him. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and other health professionals who cared so lovingly for him during his recent time of illness, especially the staff at Country Meadows Rehabilitation Center of Bridgeville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, 126 Fort Couch Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15241, at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015, preceded by viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the St. Thomas More Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to the St. Thomas More Family Life Center, 126 Fort Couch Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15241.
