PAVUK PETER “PETE” Age 92, of West Mifflin, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015. He was born June 27, 1923, in Hecla, Pennsylvania, to the late Andrew and Barbara Hnatko Pavuk. Peter was the loving husband of Gloria Lorentz Pavuk for 63 years. He is survived by son, Mark (Sue Morris) Pavuk of Waretown, NJ; and daughters, Barbara (Perry) Recker of Blue Island, IL and Jean (Robert) Beck of Palm Bay, FL. Peter is also survived by his six grandchildren, Julie Pavuk, Oakland, CA, Gloria Pavuk, Union Grove, WI, Susan (Trevor) Pavuk Smith, Allentown, PA, Alice Pavuk, Ardmore, PA, and Sarah and Abigail Beck of Palm Bay, FL. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, Andy, George, and Mike; as well as his sisters, Sue Missik and Barbara Pavuk; his son, Matthew Pavuk, also preceded him in death; as well as a daughter-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Wilde Pavuk. Peter attended Grove City College, where he enjoyed trips to national parks across the U.S. and Canada with their Outing Club. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. Pete worked as a foreman of the BTX plant at US Steel Clairton Works for 31 years. Pete also served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the European African Middle Eastern campaign medal with two bronze stars, and the WWII victory medal, among other honors. Pete was a member of Wilson Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder and Clerk of Session, and also served as a Sunday school teacher. He also volunteered at Jefferson Hospital as a chaplain for 26 years. He loved carpentry and wood-working, and was the consummate tinkerer who enjoyed fixing things. Pete also enjoyed painting and gardening. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at S.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 432 N. 6th Street, Clairton, PA 15025. Service will take place Monday, August 3, 2015, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, presided over by Pastor Ben Robinson, with interment in Round Hill Cemetery immediately following.
