BROZOVIC Fr. MATTHEW Pennsylvania native, Fr. Matthew Brozovic, OFM, who spent much of his ministerial career in Pittsburgh and Uniontown, died January 31, 2016, at the age of 85. He had been living in retirement at St. Clement Friary in Cincinnati in 2011, later moving to Clermont Nursing Care Center in Milford, Ohio. Born in Brier Hill, PA, the oldest of four children of Albert and Emily (Yelinek) Brozovic, Fr. Matthew began his life with the Franciscan Friars in 1944, as a student at St. Bonaventure Minor Seminary in Sturtevant, WI. Graduating in 1948, he entered the novitiate in Pulaski, WI, pronouncing first vows in 1949. Following Solemn Vows in 1952, Matthew began theology studies at Lourdes Seminary in Cedar Lake, IN and was ordained to the priesthood in West Chicago in 1956. His years of ministry included time as a spiritual assistant, educator and formator, preaching and internal service to the friars as councilor, guardian, vocations and communication. When asked, prior to his death, what he wanted to share about his life, Matthew wrote, "
grateful to the end. I have the blessing of being a friar priest. Painful as it was, becoming a member of [St. John the Baptist] Province was embraced with enthusiasm as God's will. Hopefully my service reflected this spirit." Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, he is survived by his brothers in community and by nieces and nephews. Since Fr. Matthew requested cremation, after the Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at St. Clement Church in Cincinnati, his cremains will be taken to Pittsburgh. A Memorial Mass at Mt. Assisi Convent Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016, will precede interment in the friars' section at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
