LYNCH JOAN MARIE Joan Marie Spencer Lynch, age 74, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt, passed away peacefully, on January 30, 2016, surrounded by her family, at St. Clair Hospital. Joan was born to James Spencer and Mary Hickey Spencer on October 20, 1941. After receiving her nursing degree from Mercy College (now University of Detroit Mercy), Joan practiced briefly before devoting her life to her family. She set high standards for her four adoring children and she provided them a loving, supportive home. She was active in the Monroeville community, serving in several leadership positions for community, church, school and sports booster groups. Her community service included eight years as a member of the Monroeville Council. In her later years, her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was their biggest supporter. In recent years, she struggled bravely and gracefully with a rare muscle weakening disease, strengthened by the constant and loving support of her husband, Mike. She never complained, putting her family and friends first at all times. During a brief hospitalization, Joan was able to spend her final days sharing memories, which was one last gift to her family. Joan's life was one of love, kindness, faith and service. Her family and friends were blessed for their time with her. Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Mike; her sister, Kay; and sister- in-law, Marianne; her four children, Kelley, Kevin (wife, Yuko), Kathleen Hondru (husband, Scott), and Michael (wife, Cori); her seven grandchildren, Kathryn ("Kate," 15), Corban (12), Connor (9), Regan (6), Declan (3), Erin (18 months) and Patrick (18 months); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The viewing will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016, at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. The funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at St. Benedict the Abbot Church, 120 Abington Drive, McMurray, PA 15317, followed by a brief committal ceremony in Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 2900 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. In lieu of flowers, Joan asked that donations be made to the Michael P. Lynch Scholarship Fund of the Local Government Academy, localgovernment academy.org/lynchsf/, or by check to North American Martyrs Catholic School, 2526 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, PA 15146.
