ELLIS ROSE BEARER Age 87, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2016. Beloved wife of the late John K. Ellis, Sr.; mother of J. Keefe Ellis, Jr. (Stacy), Peter Ellis, M.D. and Connie Heppenstall, (Mark); sister of Grace Rhody of Patton, PA, Helen Hahn of Carson City, NV, the late Mary Mullen, Mildred Robine, Nelda Carl, Winifred Leap, Joseph Bearer and John Bearer. Rose is also survived by ten grandchildren, Emily, Jake, Caroline, and Patrick Ellis, Andrew, Peter and Thad Ellis, and Mary, Kyle and Charlie Heppenstall; as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose graduated from the nurses training program at Mercy Hospital in 1948 where she worked as a pediatric nurse until she met her beloved husband of 51 years, John K. Jack Ellis whom she married in 1954. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her. A member of the St. Bede Parish in Point Breeze for 60 years, she sang in the church choir and was a devoted attendee of the 7:00 a.m. daily mass. In addition to her involvement with and devotion to St. Bede, Rose volunteered for many years at the Vintage Senior Center in Highland Park. She will be sorely missed but forever remembered for her beautiful smile, piercing blue eyes, kind words and gentle heart. There will be no visitation. Funeral Monday, February 15, 2016, Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Bede Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Bede Parish, 509 S. Dallas Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15208.
