BOUZOS GEORGE K. A devoted and loving husband, father, brother, Pappou and friend, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015. Born January 20, 1930, in the Peloponnesus region of Greece to Kosta and Efthemia Bouzos, George and his family were caught up in the German occupation in Europe during World War II, where he was captured, imprisoned and narrowly escaped execution as a boy. After the war he joined the Coast Guard in Greece. There he served with pride and formed lifelong friendships. It was also during this time that he met and married his wife of 62 years, Sofia. After moving to the U.S. in 1954, he began to work in the hospitality industry in Pittsburgh. Working multiple jobs at hotels and restaurants, he embraced the American Dream and never let go. In the 1970s, he opened The Oak Lodge restaurant in East Liberty and later took over as owner of the Modern Café in the North Side, which he operated for 20 years. He was also a strong supporter of Greek-American progressive associations including, AHEPA, GAPA and KEPA; he was a joyful, longtime volunteer with the auxiliary Deputy Sheriffs of Allegheny County as well as a proud 32nd degree Shriner. He will be remembered for his no-nonsense personality, irreverent humor and the love he doted on his children and grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was gathering as many family members as he could and treating them to some ice cream and good conversation. George is survived by his wife, Sofia; his daughters, Irene (Dean) Zotis, Tammy (Alvin) Backeris, Georgia (Mike) Tankosich of Pittsburgh; his son, Constantine “Dean” (Zoe) Bouzos of Karpathos, Greece. He will be missed by his many grandchildren and great- grandchildren who dearly loved their Pappou and “Pappou-Pappou.” He also leaves behind remaining siblings, Paraskevas and John Bouzos in Greece, and Harry Bouzos and Stamatoula Bellios here in the U.S. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS, 724-941-3211. Friends welcome at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, Thursday, August 13, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road, Mt.
