MILLER HARVEY A., Jr. On Thursday, August 27, 2015. Harvey Miller was born September 1, 1918, in Pittsburgh, PA and resided in Glenshaw, PA from 1950 to the present. In 1943 he married Ruth Marion Sample (deceased) and they had four children, Kenneth R. Miller, Patricia M. Butler, Mary Jane Miller, and Ronald H. Miller. Harvey attended Friendship Grade School and Peabody High School and earned his BA degree from Grove City College and Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He was the eldest son of Harvey A. Miller (deceased) and Regina Lee Miller (deceased) of East Liberty and had three brothers, J. Lee Miller, C. Andrew Miller, and Raymond B. Miller (deceased). His surviving family includes three children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Harvey served from 1941 through 1945 as an officer in the United States Navy, Destroyers, in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific Fleets. His service included the invasions at Gela, Sicily, Normandy, and Marseille, France, and included various Atlantic Convoys. He was later transferred to the Pacific Fleet where he served until the war ended. After his service Harvey engaged in private civil practice with trial and appellate appearances before State and Federal Courts, including argument as lead counsel before the United States Supreme Court. He practiced for over 60 years as the law firm Miller & Miller with his father, Harvey A. Miller, brother, J. Lee Miller, son, Kenneth R. Miller and grandniece, Morgan Evans retiring from active practice in 2012. Harvey served on the Board of Trustees of Grove City College for 41 years and continued as Emeritus Trustee from 2004. He was a former Trustee of St. Francis Hospital, Passavant Hospital, and the Glenshaw Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of several Masonic orders and the North Boro's Sportsmen's Club. Harvey and Ruth traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Egypt, Jordan, Alaska and the Scandinavian countries and toured China in an Airstream trailer. After losing Ruth to cancer he spent his most recent years living in Glenshaw and continuing his practice. Friends will be received at the BOCK FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA 15116 on Friday, September 4, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Glenshaw Presbyterian Church, 300 Glenn Ave., Glenshaw. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the "Mary Jane Miller and Ruth Sample Miller Memorial Scholarship at Grove City College", the Glenshaw Presbyterian Church, 300 Glenn Ave., Glenshaw, PA 15116 or an organization of your choice.
