RITCHEY PATRICIA M. (CURTZ) Age 96, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Illinois on November 22, 2015. Loving wife to the late Robert J. Ritchey and amazing mom to Gail LoDolce (John Peralta), CA, Roberta Seigel (Marty), Illinois, Kevin (Patti), PA, Kerry (Kathy), PA; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Upon retirement at age 69 from the Township of Penn Hills where she was affectionately known as Mother Ritchey, Patricia spent 17 years volunteering at the Penn Hills Senior Center. Patricia had a strong work ethic. Her active retirement included line dancing, card clubs, bowling, shopping, lunches with friends. With her great style, she was asked to do some fashion show modeling in her 80s and 90s. Patricia was a friend to many, always putting others' needs ahead of her own. Genuinely sweet, she was kindhearted, generous and showed profound loyalty to family and friends. The twinkle in her eye, her infectious laugh and beautiful smile will be missed dearly by all those who had the privilege to know her. McGINNIS GEORGE FRANKLIN, Jr. Age 91, of Dravosburg, formerly of McKeesport, passed on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at Sunrise of Upper St. Clair Senior Living. He was born July 16, 1924, in McMechen, WV to the late George F. McGinnis, Sr. and Alma Long McGinnis. George was the loving husband of 64 years to the late Alice (Honeygirl) Proch McGinnis. He is survived by sons, Scott (Debra) McGinnis of Greenville, SC, Rick (Stacy) McGinnis of Mechanicsburg, PA and Craig (Cindy) of Elizabeth, PA. Also mourning his passing are his ten grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Melissa, Shannon, Seth, Ashley, Chloe, Ian, Cullen, Abigail; and five great- grandchildren, Momoka, Ayuka, Harper, Lila and August. Along with his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his youngest son, Chris McGinnis. He was a 1942 graduate of McKeesport High School, went to Northwestern University, a naval enlistee serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII, and a survivor of The Callaghan (a destroyer sunk by kamikaze aircraft). Following his discharge, George remained active in the US Naval Reserve for 44 years, retiring as an E9 Master Chief. He worked as a boilermaker at US Steel Irvin Works for 38 years. George was a very active member of the White Oak American Legion, VFW Dravosburg, a lifelong member of the Dravosburg #2 VFC, a Dravosburg Justice of the Peace for several years, a Master Mason and 32nd degree of the Wilson Masonic Lodge in Dravosburg, a lifelong member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon where he was a longtime Drill Sargent for their color guard, a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in McKeesport, an avid golfer, loved talking about his family's ancestry and his travels with the Navy and had an incredible sense of humor. Family and friends will be received at I. M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th Street, Dravosburg, PA 15034 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015. WADOSKY DANIEL JOSEPH Born, December 7, 1951, died, November 13, 2015, from complications resulting from a logging accident. A well known character of Bend, Oregon, he passed away surrounded by friends. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Dan entered the Navy right after graduating from high school, saw service in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972. He moved to Bend, Oregon in 1980, and worked as bookkeeper and tax consultant for many years. He also was an avid antique collector and dealer, who could be found haunting the yard sales of Central Oregon every Saturday. Dan was passionate for wild things: wild rivers, wild fish, cougars, bears and wolves. He championed many conservation efforts in Oregon over the past 35 years including The Oregon Rivers Initiative, Bear and Cougar Protection and various wild salmon and steelhead conservation efforts. Dan loved fly fishing and running the wild rivers of Oregon and the west. He was a ruthless cribbage player, a Harp Hall marcher and fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. A celebration of Dan's life will be held December 6, 2015, in Bend, Oregon. At his request, remembrances may be made to the Oregon Natural Desert Association. She was born June 10, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late William J. Pugh and Anna May (McKibbin) Pugh. Mrs. Miller is survived by four daughters, Sue Ann Miller of West Palm Beach, FL, Pamela Hannah Miller of Denver, CO, Glenda Joy Radicella of New Castle, PA and Barbara May Gade and her husband, Thomas Joseph of Butler, PA; eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; three nieces; nine nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Franklin Miller, who passed away August 10, 1992; one brother; two sisters; and three nieces. DIXON JAMES J., Sr. Age 86, of Finleyville, died Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the West Penn Hospital Hospice Unit in Pittsburgh. He was born October 5, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a son of Francis and Marie Fallor Dixon. Mr. Dixon was retired as a foreman at the former Elrama Station of Duquesne Light Company. He served in The U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and American Legion Post 613, both in Finleyville, and Peters Creek Historical Society. Surviving are his wife, Cora Wyncoop Dixon; four sons, Gerald (Ann) and David (Erin) Dixon, both of Upper St. Clair, and Paul (Diana) and James, Jr. (Laura) Dixon, both of Finleyville; a stepdaughter, Sally McAuliffe-Bellin (Sam) of Scott Township; two sisters, Ruth Rollins of St. Petersburg, FL and Dorothy Dixon of Bethel Park; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are his first wife, Sarah Graham Dixon, who died in July, 1971; two sons, Donald and Robert Dixon; three brothers and two sisters. ZAJDEL WALTER JOSEPH Age 89, of Lake Worth, Florida, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015, due to complications from a series of strokes which had left him partially paralyzed since 2008. He was born on October 6, 1926, to John and Katherine Zajdel in Hazelwood. He attended Dormont High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On September 2, 1952, he married Geraldine Helen Vogel of Beechview. They lived in Whitehall for nearly 40 years, before retiring to Florida in 1990. In Whitehall, they were members of Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Roman Catholic Church. His wife of 63 years, Gerry, currently resides at Cove's Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta, Maine, where she is recovering from multiple falls. In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his son, Daniel and daughter-in-law, Laura of McMurray, PA; his daughter, Heidi Wilson, of Royal Palm Beach, FL; his daughter, Elizabeth Crampe and son-in-law, Thomas of Indian Land, SC; and James of Royal Oak, MI and his former wife, Patti of Shelby Twp., MI. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Gwendolyn Zajdel Majewski and husband Stefan, Carson Zajdel, 1st Lieutenant Byron Zajdel, Paige Wilson, Michael Wilson, Andrea Crampe Braswell and husband Shawn and Jared Zajdel and Hayley Zajdel. Walter was predeceased by four sisters, Frances Therisod, Irene Kotchey, Viola Zajdel and Helen Peduto. During World War II, Walter served as a carpenter's mate aboard U.S.S. Tranquility (AH-14), a hospital ship. He was a "plank owner," and part of the crew during the ship's commissioning in New York City. After transiting the Panama Canal, the ship was attached to the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The ship began service as a base hospital at Ulithi where it was dispatched to pick up survivors from the U.S.S. Indianapolis in the closing days of the war. After the war, Walter worked in various men's clothing stores in the Pittsburgh area, including Frank & Seder, Bond Clothes and Hughes & Hatcher. He concluded his career at F.W. Kestle Associates in 1990. His family remembers Walter as a caring, loving parent and grandparent who encouraged his children to get a good education. When working, he loved traveling to Florida every summer with his family. In retirement, he loved to fish in the ocean, play checkers and enjoy the simple pleasures of family life. He was a selfless role model and loved his wife and family until the day he died. We will miss him greatly, but are confident that he now dwells in the House of the Lord.
