EDWARD RICHARD KOVANIC Passed away peacefully at age 89 on June 10, 2020, after living a very abundant life. Ed will always be cherished as a loving husband and exemplary father. His quick wit and sharp intellect will also be missed. Ed was the youngest of three children born to Kazimir and Anna Kovanic, immigrants of the Slovak Republic. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 10, 1931, Mother's Day that year, he was a devoted son, caring for his mother in her later years while working and studying. Ed graduated from Perry High School in 1949 and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953 and his Master's in 1966. Working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1958-1989, he constructed many projects which serve and protect our communities to this day. Ed's love for this country led him to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953, serving three years active duty and five years reserve. Sergeant Kovanic served as a Parris Island drill instructor as well as serving an overseas tour. Following their father's lead, both his children studied engineering disciplines at the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the U.S. Navy. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosemarie Bierfeldt Kovanic; daughter, Leslie (Philip Mansfield); and son, Timothy Kovanic. He was blessed with two granddaughters, Emily Mansfield and Angela Mandfield (Alex) Connor. He is survived by his aunts, Irene Berczel and Janice Rubacky. He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews who he followed with love and interest. Friends will be received Sunday, June 14, 2020, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the GEORGE A. DANIEL E. SCHEIB Age 82, was born in Bridgeville to Edward and Bertha Scheib. He resided in Heidelberg and then Presto. Honorably discharged from the Army. Dan was a proud member of the Carpenters Union #432 for over 50 years. Survived by his cousin and good friend, Missy Maxwell and Troy Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Suellen Petrich and their beloved dog, Peanuts. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved wildlife and nature, and feeding all the wild animals including birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. Gardening, hunting, and fishing are the hobbies he loved the most. He also enjoyed many years of spending time at his hunting cabin in the Pennsylvania State Forest in Jefferson County. JOHN EDWARD (JACK) REOTT Passed away peacefully on May, 10, 2020, in Pineville, NC. Jack was born August 8, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Edward Reott and Marie Babinger. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Alyce, whom he married in 1954; parents; and brothers, Ronnie and James Reott. He is survived by his children, Ray (Joanne), Karyn, and David Reott; his grandchildren, Rebecca Reott (Steven Sherrin), Kate Reott, and Ryan Egdorf (Crystal Raffiani); nephews, Edward Reott and Joseph Reott; and niece; Joanne (Vith) Keating. Jack was a longtime resident of McKees Rocks and Robinson Township, PA. He served as a medic in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He worked at Fisher Controls in Coraopolis and at Herrion in Butler, PA. Jack enjoyed woodworking and tile mosaics, model ship building, and card games. He was an avid reader and researched an exhaustive genealogy study of his family tree. Jack was a humble man with a wide-open heart who welcomed everyone into his family. Favo (Renee), Timothy J. Favo (Cathy), Maureen A. Favo, Kathleen D. Finke (Jon), Jennifer McGowan (Robert), Loraine P. Zatawski (Keith); and step-children, Eileen McGrath, James G. McGrath (Paulina), Michael D. McGrath (Laura), and Kathleen M. King. He attended high school at St. Vincent Preparatory School in Latrobe, PA. He graduated from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. in 1955 with an Architectural Engineering degree. He married Maureen Daley in 1956 before entering the United States Air Force. He served as a Navigator in Texas and South Dakota. In 1959, Fred and Maureen returned to Oakmont. Fred joined his parents at Oakmont Realty Company. Fred added an insurance business to the company, and continued his father's legacy as a builder. Fred built many homes, apartments, and commercial properties in the Oakmont area. Fred served the community as a member of Oakmont Borough Council for 40 years (1964-2003). He worked for six years as a council member, and 34 years as council president. Next, he served as the Borough Treasurer from 2004 to 2019. Fred was an avid runner while in college and the USAF. He competed in the 1954 NCAA Championships at the University of Michigan. In 1956, he was a member of the All Air Force Mile Relay Champions. In 1982, Fred returned to running as Track Coach for Riverview School District. He served as the boys and girls track coach from 1982-1993. His Riverview teams had 14 WPIAL Champions, and six State Medalists. Fred was in The Catholic University and the Allegheny-Kiski Athletic Hall of Fames. Service in the community was a lifelong theme for Fred. He was a proud member of the Oakmont Lions Club for over 60 years. He served on the Board of Trustees for Catholic University of America and Seton Hill University. He was on the Board of Directors of Longwood at Oakmont. JEAN C. BURT Age 100, of Cape Girardeau, MO, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, PA, on Monday June 8, 2020. Beloved wife for 57 years of the late Dr. Robert Clarke Burt; loving mother of Dr. Anne Burt (Dr. William G.) Marietta, and the late Alan Richard Burt; cherished grandmother of Dr. Robert Grey Marietta, Marshall Burt (Lara) Marietta, and Jason Richard (Neesann) Marietta; great-grandmother of Madeleine, Alan, William, Luisa Jean, Samuel, and Lennon Marietta; sister of the late Olive Wepfer and Nancy Judy; also survived by nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (Chatham University) in 1940. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1970, a longtime member of the Allegheny General Hospital Auxiliary and a Charter Member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park since 1950. The last 12 years she lived in Missouri, near her daughter. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
