EDWARD RICHARD KOVANIC Passed away peacefully at age 89 on June 10, 2020, after living a very abundant life. Ed will always be cherished as a loving husband and exemplary father. His quick wit and sharp intellect will also be missed. Ed was the youngest of three children born to Kazimir and Anna Kovanic, immigrants of the Slovak Republic. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 10, 1931, Mother's Day that year, he was a devoted son, caring for his mother in her later years while working and studying. Ed graduated from Perry High School in 1949 and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953 and his Master's in 1966. Working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1958-1989, he constructed many projects which serve and protect our communities to this day. Ed's love for this country led him to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953, serving three years active duty and five years reserve. Sergeant Kovanic served as a Parris Island drill instructor as well as serving an overseas tour. Following their father's lead, both his children studied engineering disciplines at the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the U.S. Navy. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosemarie Bierfeldt Kovanic; daughter, Leslie (Philip Mansfield); and son, Timothy Kovanic. He was blessed with two granddaughters, Emily Mansfield and Angela Mandfield (Alex) Connor. He is survived by his aunts, Irene Berczel and Janice Rubacky. He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews who he followed with love and interest. Friends will be received Sunday, June 14, 2020, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 10418 Perry Hwy., Wexford, PA 15090. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020, at 10 a.m., in St. Alexis Church, Wexford. TISA EDNA WUENSTEL Age 71, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020, in her home, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Michel and husband, Paul James Wuenstel. Tisa was always there for her family, her friends, and even strangers. Especially when it came to making sure everyone left with a full belly. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are, her children, Kimberly Faloon and her husband, Hugh, Darlene Liberto, Susan Cole, Michelle Cole, and Terry White; her grandchildren, Christina, Brianna, Paul James, Nicholas, and Santino; her great-grandchildren, Cole and Porter; and many nieces, nephews and very close friends. EDWARD J. ROHM Age 60, of Ross Twp., passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, after a courageous battle with Cancer. Born May 16, 1960, son of the late Edward and Doris (Hufnagel) Rohm. Beloved husband of Betsy Rohm, whom he married on April 23, 1989. Loving father of Joshua (Katelyn McKelvey), Troy and Sydney Rohm; pappy of Kameron; dear brother of Marj Northcott, James Rohm (Susan), William Rohm (Cathy), Carol Patsilevas (Herky). Ed loved working as a Local 12 Sheet Metal Worker and was an avid Penguins hockey fan, forever known as the F31 sign guy. NANCY J. STOUGHTON Of North Versailles, formerly of East Pittsburgh, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. Beloved and treasured friend of Sandi White, with whom she resided. Dear sister of Ralph M. (Alberta) Stoughton of South Side, Joyce Marcoz of Turtle Creek, Pete (Gretchen) Stoughton of FL, Carol (late Victor) Giacomin of Ben Avon, the late John (Ava) Stoughton, and the late Bob Stoughton. Nancy is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy was a 1970 graduate of Penn Trafford High School and was a former bookkeeper for Backus Cabinets in Trafford. Recently, Nancy was a caregiver with From the Heart Agency. Nancy loved gardening and enjoyed the company of big dogs. She also was a former member of the East Pittsburgh Economic Development Corp. MARGARET L. BLUMETTE Age 96, of Harmar Township, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. Born in Smock, PA, on July 20, 1923, she was a daughter of the late James and Harriett (Davis) Daugherty. Beloved wife of the late Tony Blumette. Loving mother of Richard (Clarice) Blumette of North Versailles, Robert (Denise) Blumette of Indiana Township and the late Nancy Maurer. Grandmother of Sean (Kelsie Smith) Blumette of Imperial and Lisa (John) Loughner of North Versailles. Great-Grandmother of Nathan. Sister of the late Elizabeth Haerich and James Daugherty. Margaret is also survived by many nieces and nephews of the Davis and Blumette families. She enjoyed cooking, canning vegetables and fruits, bowling, and collecting owls. JOHN FITZGERALD GROSS Age 56, a resident of White Oak for 20 years, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in McKeesport on May 29, 1964, to the late Eugene and Madeline Medved Gross. He is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Jane Stegman Gross, of White Oak and their children, David C. (Jessica) Gross of Elizabeth and Shawn M. Gross of White Oak. John also leaves behind his grandchildren, Emma Gross and Jackson Gross; sister, Diane (Craig) Brooks of Elizabeth; his nieces and nephews; and his cats, Toby and Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. John was a member of the St. Angela Roman Catholic Church in White Oak and was employed by Don Farr Moving and Storage as a truck driver. John was a man that enjoyed eating, loved cats, fishing, crime shows, and napping. He was a man that was a loyal helper, a joker, and he will be missed dearly by all that knew him. DANIEL E. SCHEIB Age 82, was born in Bridgeville to Edward and Bertha Scheib. He resided in Heidelberg and then Presto. Honorably discharged from the Army. Dan was a proud member of the Carpenters Union #432 for over 50 years. Survived by his cousin and good friend, Missy Maxwell and Troy Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Suellen Petrich and their beloved dog, Peanuts. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved wildlife and nature, and feeding all the wild animals including birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. Gardening, hunting, and fishing are the hobbies he loved the most. He also enjoyed many years of spending time at his hunting cabin in the Pennsylvania State Forest in Jefferson County. JOHN EDWARD (JACK) REOTT Passed away peacefully on May, 10, 2020, in Pineville, NC. Jack was born August 8, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Edward Reott and Marie Babinger. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Alyce, whom he married in 1954; parents; and brothers, Ronnie and James Reott. He is survived by his children, Ray (Joanne), Karyn, and David Reott; his grandchildren, Rebecca Reott (Steven Sherrin), Kate Reott, and Ryan Egdorf (Crystal Raffiani); nephews, Edward Reott and Joseph Reott; and niece; Joanne (Vith) Keating. Jack was a longtime resident of McKees Rocks and Robinson Township, PA. He served as a medic in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He worked at Fisher Controls in Coraopolis and at Herrion in Butler, PA. Jack enjoyed woodworking and tile mosaics, model ship building, and card games. He was an avid reader and researched an exhaustive genealogy study of his family tree. Jack was a humble man with a wide-open heart who welcomed everyone into his family. A memorial gathering will be held in Pittsburgh, PA at a future date. FREDERICK R. "FRED" FAVO Age 87, of Oakmont, on June 8, 2020. Fred was born on March 11,1933, to Fred and Sarah A. (McInerney) Favo. Beloved husband of Maureen Daley (deceased) and Anne Finnegan (deceased). Devoted father of Frederick M. Favo, Christopher M. Favo (Allison), Karen M. Walsh (Charlie), Michael S. Favo (Renee), Timothy J. Favo (Cathy), Maureen A. Favo, Kathleen D. Finke (Jon), Jennifer McGowan (Robert), Loraine P. Zatawski (Keith); and step-children, Eileen McGrath, James G. McGrath (Paulina), Michael D. McGrath (Laura), and Kathleen M. King. Loving grandfather to Emily and Daniel Walsh, Sarah, Brendan, Patrick, Mary, and Jamie Favo, Quinn and Claire Favo, Conor Favo (Laura), Daley Auvil (Nathan), Tessa Favo, Lindsay and John Finke, Jordan and Katie Rose Zatawski, Finn and Ryan McGowan, Anna, Caragh, and Jack McGrath, Finn and Luke McGrath, Alex and Norah King. Fred was the proud brother of Sally F. Troll and Nancy T. Schepis. His parents, both wives, and sister, Sally, preceded him in death. Fred's education began at St. Irenaeus grade school in Oakmont. He attended high school at St. Vincent Preparatory School in Latrobe, PA. He graduated from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. in 1955 with an Architectural Engineering degree. He married Maureen Daley in 1956 before entering the United States Air Force. He served as a Navigator in Texas and South Dakota. In 1959, Fred and Maureen returned to Oakmont. Fred joined his parents at Oakmont Realty Company. Fred added an insurance business to the company, and continued his father's legacy as a builder. Fred built many homes, apartments, and commercial properties in the Oakmont area. Fred served the community as a member of Oakmont Borough Council for 40 years (1964-2003). He worked for six years as a council member, and 34 years as council president. Next, he served as the Borough Treasurer from 2004 to 2019. Fred was an avid runner while in college and the USAF. He competed in the 1954 NCAA Championships at the University of Michigan. In 1956, he was a member of the All Air Force Mile Relay Champions. In 1982, Fred returned to running as Track Coach for Riverview School District. He served as the boys and girls track coach from 1982-1993. His Riverview teams had 14 WPIAL Champions, and six State Medalists. Fred was in The Catholic University and the Allegheny-Kiski Athletic Hall of Fames. Service in the community was a lifelong theme for Fred. He was a proud member of the Oakmont Lions Club for over 60 years. He served on the Board of Trustees for Catholic University of America and Seton Hill University. He was on the Board of Directors of Longwood at Oakmont. Fred supported many charities in the Oakmont community. In lieu of sending flowers, please feel free to contribute to one in his name. CAROL A. (JENKINS) MEDSGER Age 84, of Ross Twp., joined her beloved husband, Harry M. Medsger, Sr., in Heaven on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, surrounded with love after a long journey and a brief battle. Carol is survived by her six children, Harry M. Medsger, Jr. (Debbie) of Florida, Christi L. Lebak (Daniel) of Ross Twp., Gary C. Medsger, Sr. (Regina) of Ross Twp., Caren S. Medsger of Natrona Heights, Carla A. Purvis (Kyle) of South Carolina, Curtis W. Medsger (Heather) of Shaler. Proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Carol also leaves wonderful neighbors and friends of Corbett Court high-rise whose love and friendship enriched her life. Carol enjoyed poker, traveling, Hallmark movies and spending time with family. Carol's journey was made more comfortable by the tender care of her hospice team; RN Joann, RN Gina, RN Kelley, CNA Rose, MSW Trish and Chaplain Andrew of Mother Teresa Hospice. In addition to her husband Harry, Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lillian Jenkins, as well as her sister, Barbara Palermo. As per Carol's wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a future time. Arrangements entrusted to SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, at 388 Center Avenue, Pgh., PA 15229. JEAN C. BURT Age 100, of Cape Girardeau, MO, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, PA, on Monday June 8, 2020. Beloved wife for 57 years of the late Dr. Robert Clarke Burt; loving mother of Dr. Anne Burt (Dr. William G.) Marietta, and the late Alan Richard Burt; cherished grandmother of Dr. Robert Grey Marietta, Marshall Burt (Lara) Marietta, and Jason Richard (Neesann) Marietta; great-grandmother of Madeleine, Alan, William, Luisa Jean, Samuel, and Lennon Marietta; sister of the late Olive Wepfer and Nancy Judy; also survived by nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (Chatham University) in 1940. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1970, a longtime member of the Allegheny General Hospital Auxiliary and a Charter Member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park since 1950. The last 12 years she lived in Missouri, near her daughter. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
