KORONA EVELYN CATHERINE (STEIN) Evelyn Catherine (Stein) Korona, formerly of Jeannette and Latrobe, died peacefully on December 19, 2015, in a beautiful long-term care facility in Loveland, Colorado. She was 95 years old. Evelyn Evie was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and was raised in the neighboring city of Jeannette, Pennsylvania. She met and married Arthur W. Smail of Jeannette and gave birth to three boys: Arthur W. Smail, Jr., Albert C. Smail, and Robert J. Smail. Her husband enlisted in the Navy during WWII where he died in 1944 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She later met and married Glenn W. Chew and gave birth to two children: Ronald G. Chew and Glenda L. (Chew) Beck. Evelyn and her family moved to a small farming community named Plum Township at the time where her children went to school and grew up. She later moved to Pleasant Unity, Pennsylvania where her husband, Glenn, passed away. Then she moved to Latrobe, Pennsylvania where she met and married Joseph E. Korona. Many years after Joe had passed away, Evelyn moved to an assisted living facility in Loveland, Colorado near where her youngest son, Ron lived. She is survived by three children, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Interment is in Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont, Pennsylvania. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

George is also survived by many nieces and nephews. George was a World War II Army veteran and a recipient of a Purple Heart which he earned during the Normandy invasion. He was a retired craneman from US Steel, Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock. George was an avid bowler and also enjoyed observing bowling at Great Valley Lanes. DELMER PHIL Age 73, of Mt. Washington, passed away on January 3, 2016, at the Wellington Regional Hospital in Florida after a long illness. A gathering of longtime friends were with him and a remembrance dinner was held afterwards. He is survived by Diane, the love of his life and his wife of 37 years. Phil graduated from Washington and Jefferson College and the University of Pittsburgh with an engineering degree and began his career at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He later worked for other companies as he progressed into various corporate positions within the Pittsburgh area. Despite his many health challenges, Phil was also an avid golfer with a competitive spirit and with that spirit he won many golf tournaments as a member of Edgewood Country Club. He also won an Allegheny County Senior Golf Championship. He was on the board of the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation and was involved in many decisions to help improve the community and city that he loved. Much gratitude goes to Dr. Joseph T. Grice and his wonderful staff for all their continued care over the years. Phil loved animals and had planned to be a veterinarian. EVANCHO DOROTHY M. (SUDIA) Mrs. Dorothy Marie (Sudia) Evancho, 96, of Turtle Creek, passed away gently of natural causes, on December 21, 2015. One of eight children, she was born to Theodore and Paraska Sudia, on August 28, 1919, in Ambridge, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings; her beloved husband of 68 years, Nicholas Evancho; and a child, James Paul. She is survived by five children, Thomas Evancho (Shannon) of Turtle Creek, David Evancho, of Cheswick, PA, Kathleen (Peter) Chmelir, of Camarillo, CA, Janet Evancho, of Spokane, WA, and Christina (Kurt) Zander, of New Hope, PA; and six grandchildren, David Chmelir, Susan Chmelir Dickstein, Malia Evancho, Lauren Evancho Stanger, Nicholas Cemenenkoff and Grace Zander. Mrs. Evancho lived in Turtle Creek her entire adult life and raised her family as a devoted wife and mother. An avid reader and advocate of higher education, she introduced classic literature to young people as a Great Books Leader and served as a Den Mother and Cub Scout Leader when her children were school aged. She was an accomplished seamstress, adventurous cook and loved to crochet and design crafts. Once her family was raised, Mrs. Evancho worked in the linen department at Joseph Hornes at Monroeville Mall for many years until she finally retired in her late 70s. The family would like to express gratitude to the nurses and staff at LGAR Health & Rehabilitation Center in Turtle Creek for the care and kindness shown to their mother.
