LAWLOR JOHN GARY JOHN GARY, AG...
LAWLOR JOHN GARY John Gary, age 71, whom friends all knew as Gary, passed away on September 13, 2017, following a long illness. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Irene (Neff) and father, John Lawlor. He is survived by a brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Chris (Marcy), of Chicago; nephews, Jack and David and David's wife, Kylene S., of Chicago; and friends from throughout the country. Gary was one of those brilliant, creative spirits whose professional and personal life was upturned over and over by a lifelong bipolar disorder that seemed only to complement the unique and cherished force of his character. Educated with a degree in English from Amherst College and Law from the University of Pittsburgh, Gary's exquisite dinners for friends, home overflowing with collections of books and ethnographic artifacts from around the world, and personal productions in art and sculpture crafted from anything on hand, marked the deep currents of an artist ever finding fulfillment. He culled and arranged his voluminous productions of poetry over the years into a bound set of seventy-six for his many friends. Gary was never afraid of his dying, but he helped others through theirs with calm and loving devotion, for he knew there was no gift greater he could give than this, and that the world's best libraries, best books will not prepare us to pass this membrane, to make this transit to slip unnoticed beyond. Gary's friends understand, and grieve deeply, that there will be no one in their lives like him again, but they rejoice in how much larger their lives are for having known him. Acknowledgement is paid to the sensitive care Gary received from the staff of the John J. Kane Glen Hazel Nursing Home and the Compassionate Care Hospice. There is no visitation and interment was private. Professional Services by D'ALESSANDRO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, LTD., Lawrenceville. GETH FRANK JOSEPH FRANK JOSEPH...
GETH FRANK JOSEPH Frank Joseph Geth, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at his home in Templeton, CA. He was born in Broughton, Pennsylvania in January 1926 to Anna and John Geth. Frank was raised by his mother after his father, and Grandfather, were killed in the Horning Pennsylvania coal mine explosion and fire in February 1926 when Frank was only one month old. He grew up tough and strong-willed and in 1943 (a month after turning 17) he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after forging his mother's signature; Frank participated in the Palau Islands Operation, specifically in combat and as a top communications lineman on Peleliu. In the communications forum, life expectancy (per Frank) was 30 seconds on the pole. But survive he did. Two months prior to his discharge in December 1945, he was back in his hometown and met the "love of his life", a petite, feisty brunette (Bette Cingel) who would be his forever lifelong partner and soulmate for 66 and a half years. They married in April of 1947 and settled in Pittsburgh, PA and had three children. In 1961 they decided to relocate to California and settled in Simi Valley to start a new life, where Frank worked at Rocketdyne (rocket engine design and production Co.) 1961-1966; then moved on to Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, as an electrical engineer, until his retirement in 1986. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Templeton and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the beautiful area (which is much like the early days of Simi Valley). Frank, never one to sit still, enjoyed helping others and building or making something, whether it was his docent work at Hearst Castle or utilizing his amazing skills of masonry, carpentry, and electrical work. Frank is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at the Old Mission San Miguel, officiated by Father Pedro Umana. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Agnes and Max Hansen, German immigrants who worked hard to provide him the opportunity for a better life. Helm's early education was in the Chicago public schools. He went on to earn a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and both an MS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Early in his career, he served in the US Navy, primarily in mine warfare assignments.
