SIEBOTT CHARLES, SKCM USN RET ...
SIEBOTT CHARLES, SKCM USN RET (KARAVOLOS) Born in 1937 in Philadelphia, fell asleep in the lord suddenly on October 14, 2018. Beloved and adored husband of Irene Karavolos; Charlie leaves behind heartbroken daughter, Kelly; son-in-law and best buddy, Gregory (Pefferman); and two sisters in Philadelphia, Joan Czmar and Betty Mack; nephews Donnie and Johnny and their families; "Uncle Charlie" will be mourned by dear sister-in-law, Fanny Kostos and family; nephew, George Kostos (Amy); niece, Stephanie Guimond (Guy); and precious greatniece, Demitria; and greatnephews, Eric and Steve; his very special aunt Tessie will miss his endless teasing and great company; "Uncle Charlie" will be missed by many cousins and their families. Charlie left Philadelphia at the tender age of 17 by enlisting in the US Navy. He served for 20 years and volunteered for two tours of duty in Vietnam. He saved a life. He gained the respect of the men under his command and those above his pay grade. When asked why he volunteered for duty in Vietnam twice he said "I joined to fight for and defend my country and I was honored to be able to do so." After retiring from the navy, he spent five years trying to find a new career. Finally he went to work at the FAA where he remained for 25 years. He retired at age 73 only to face yet another battle - end stage esophageal cancer. By the grace of God and the marvels of modern medicine, he lived six more years with the love of his life, Irene. He collected and read books of every genre while enjoying fine wines, thoroughly enjoyed the extra time he was granted. Charlie was one of the "good guys." Life won't be the same without him. Special thanks to Dr. Anthony Yates and Mindy, UPMC Downtown, for all the years of care. Visitation Thursday, from 1 p.m. until trisagion at 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 986 Providence Blvd., North Hills, where funeral will be held on Friday, at 11 a.m. preceded by visitation at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors at Holy Trinity Cemetery to follow.
