SHALLENBERGER NATALIE HELEN (BERND) Age 84, of Wexford, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Karl and Helene Bernd. Natalie is survived by her husband, Lawrence Shallenberger and their two loving children, Curtis (Suzanne) Shallenberger of Beaver Falls, and Caryn (Will) McMarlin of Pittsburgh; sister, Amelia Bernd; her grandchildren, Justin (Mindie), Kerry, and Colin (Sarah) McMarlin, Leah Shallenberger; as well as her great- grandchildren, Elora, Natalie, and Danielle McMarlin. Natalie met Larwence in Newcastle while they were teenagers, and together they created a life that would span the course of 70 years. In 1961, they purchased the home in Wexford where they would raise Curtis and Caryn. It remains a home full of warm memories, replete with the laughter of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a gentle, loving woman at heart, able to search out the positive in any given situation. An avid walker and nature enthusiast, Natalie spent many adventurous days hiking the trails of North Park with her beloved golden retriever, Casey. Over the course of her life, Natalie and Lawrence traveled throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia. She had a singular appreciation for the English language, working for many years as a copy editor at Frontiers International Travel. Her family and friends will forever remember a compassionate woman, always with a unique perspective of the world, who improved every life she touched. Her joy will be sorely missed by all those whose lives were fortunate enough to be graced with her presence. There is no visitation. By way of condolences, Natalie's family has requested that friends make a donation to an animal rescue. Arrangements with GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., Wexford.
