RANKIN FAYE HIDINGER (MEGA) Age 82, of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Faye was born in Scranton, PA on October 19, 1933, to the late Orvis and Dorothy Hidinger. She grew up with a very close knit family with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her childhood summers were spent in her aunts' cottages on Lake Ariel with her best friend and cousin, Kathryn "Kaye" Lieberman. After attending Pennsylvania State University and rooming with "Kaye," she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She then went on to teach kindergarten in Montreal, Canada and Chartiers Valley School district in Pittsburgh, PA for 12 years. While working, she earned a Master's degree from Duquesne University and a PhD in Early Childhood Development from the University of Pittsburgh. In Pittsburgh, Faye was a member of the St. Clair Country Club where she developed many memorable relationships with the "Birthday Girls". During this time she enjoyed holiday picnics and parties with their families along with weekly Wednesday night dinners at the club. At St. Clair she participated in paddle tennis, golf, and swimming. In 2008, Faye moved to Hilton Head Island in search of sunnier skies. Her favorite day in Hilton Head usually included a visit to the gym, a trip to the hair salon and lunch with a friend. She was a member of Wexford where she also lived and enjoyed the beautiful homes as well as the tranquility of the neighborhood. Faye is survived by a brother, Jack Hidinger of Boulder, CO; former husband, Paul B. Rankin, Jr. of Hilton Head Island, SC; and their children, Paul B. Rankin III (Susan) of Hilton Head Island, SC and Jean Neils Strunjas (Sasha) of Savannah, GA. She is also survived by six granddaughters, Sarah Neils of Washington, DC, Maria Strunjas, Katherine Rankin, Elizabeth Rankin, Anna Strunjas, and Molly Rankin. Faye will be missed by all who ever crossed paths with her. Although she was often described as “cute,” “adorable” and “fragile,” she will be remembered by those who knew her best for her inner-strength during the most difficult times. The family is holding private Funeral Services at THE ISLAND FUNERAL HOME, with burial to follow in Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines Plantation, Hilton Head Island, SC.
