FORBES TOM Age 63, son of Noreen and Charles Forbes, passed away April 20, 2017. Tom grew up in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. As a young man, he traveled to California, then lived on a commune in Tennessee. Along the way he honed the carpentry and building skills by which he earned a living. After landing in New Orleans, Tom met and married his wife of 30 years, Beth Wilson. Both natives of Western Pennsylvania, they returned home to Zelienople. Tom enjoyed outdoor activities. He was an avid gardener, raising tomatoes, berries and asparagus, and landscaping his homestead with flowers and shrubs. Tom took up running and ran four marathons and other races. Hiking, biking and swimming were other favorites which led him to compete in Triathlons. He enjoyed skiing and sailing, too. Tom was a "doer" and when stricken by a severe neurodegenerative disease, he cried once and then soldiered on. He took risks trying innovative treatments and modified his home in anticipation of declining abilities. He always hoped to be cured. All the while, Tom and Beth worked hard to maintain a meaningful life. They were assisted by many relatives, friends, support groups, organizations, agencies, doctors, pastors and church. In addition to Beth, Tom leaves behind his mother; his sister, Joyce Kamsler; his brothers, Kevin and John; in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends, too many to name, both here and in Ireland; his father Charles and brother Charlie are deceased. Thanks to all who have known and supported Tom and Beth and prayed for them. If desired, the family recommends a memorial gift to a brain disease-related organization, such as the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Michael J. Fox Foundation or National Parkinson's Foundation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063. Reception at family home to follow.
