PIATT RICHARD H. Age 79, of Washington, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015, in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale. He was born March 2, 1936, in Washington, a son of the late Ralph E. and Lidie Brady Piatt. Richard was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School and a 1957 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College. He then graduated from the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science in 1958. He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Covenant. After mortuary school, Richard worked for his father, Ralph E. Piatt, in the Piatt Funeral Home on Wheeling Street. Richard purchased the business in 1971, following Ralph's death. In 1979, he purchased the Stewart F. Barnhill Funeral Home, and merged the name to Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Directors, Inc., after moving to the Locust Avenue location. From there, he served the public for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and the Alumni Association of Washington & Jefferson College, Sunset Lodge #623 F&AM, the York Rite Bodies of Washington, the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Pittsburgh, Gourgas Lodge, Syria Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., BPOE #776, the Washington Rotary Club, and the Lone Pine Golf Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling. He also enjoyed his grandchildren, and followed their activities. He served on the Washington Park and Recreation Commission for 25 years, and was a performer with the Washington Community Theater. On October 18, 1958, he married Barbara E. Enlow, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Richard H. Piatt of North Beach, MD and Charles R. Piatt of Washington; two daughters, Laura J. Piatt of Washington and Debra P. Gibbs of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Andrew, Allyson and Tyler Piatt, all of Washington, and William and Adam Gibbs, both of Virginia Beach, VA. Deceased is a brother, Robert B. Piatt. Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the PIATT & BARNHILL FUNERAL HOME, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where Services will be conducted Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Dr. Stuart Broberg, officiating.
