She shared her gifts as a teacher and artist with students at St. Maurice Grade School in Forest Hills from 1974-1984, St. James Grade School in Wilkinsburg from 1984-1993 and Penn Trafford High School, where she taught ceramics from 1993 until her retirement in 2015. Connie was also active as a volunteer in Music Ministry, and Art and Environment Ministry at St. Maurice, St. James and Our Lady of Joy parishes. She expressed her many artistic talents as a singer, painter, calligrapher, potter and iconographer. Connie had a way of making everything she touched more beautiful. SCHILL GEORGE EDWARD Well-loved by all, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from Allegheny General Hospital from complications of a repair of an aortic aneurysm. He was 72. Born in Brookville, PA, on December 23, 1946, he was the son of the late Cletus and Gertrude (McLaughlin) Schill. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debi (Almasy) Schill, and they made their home in Coraopolis. He is survived by his son, Bill Schill and his daughter, Penelope Ed's precious granddaughter, and son, Bob Schill; his daughters, Georgia (Tim) Hartswick, Lori Donahue, Melanie (Jason) Dorsey; six grandchildren; and his first great-grandchild, Jack. He is also survived by brothers and sister, Clete (Pat) Schill, Beth (Rich) Kindel, John (Katie) Schill and Joe (Cindy) Schill; also, many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Gipson. He was born and raised in Lucinda, PA graduating from St. Joseph School. He went on for his associate degree from Penn State University. He became an engineering draftsman for Dravo Corporation; after it closed, he worked for various other companies before he retired. He was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Coraopolis where he served as trustee and an usher. George was fun to be around and always had a smile. KISAK GEORGE V. Age 83, loving husband, father and grandfather, died on April 17, 2019 after a long battle with prostate cancer and leukemia. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judith; his four sons, Stephen (wife, Anne), Andrew (wife, Cathleen), Michael and Edward; and his brother, Thomas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Annie, Andrew, Bryce, and Luke, all of whom he doted on very much. George was a graduate of Carnegie Tech and worked as a manager of scheduling at Pullman Swindell and Dick Corporation. George enjoyed visiting his sons in California, going on family vacations to national parks, playing pool with friends at Sarah Heinz House and doing daily puzzles with his wife, Judith. George was always actively involved with his sons in Boy Scouts and sports and never missed a camping trip or game. He always had time for his family. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Hillman Cancer Center and Shadyside Hospital for their years of treatment and especially for their warm and caring treatment of George. SHORT JOHANNA G. Age 20, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, April 13, 2019. She was accompanied into Heaven by the man she loved, Jacob Hoffman. Johanna was born at home in Butler County and home schooled with her six siblings. Johanna was currently employed at Starbucks as a store manager where she touched the lives of many. Johanna loved the outdoors. She was an excellent shot in archery and loved to hunt and fish. She enjoyed four wheeling and horseback riding. She was also an accomplished violinist. She was a woman who loved the Lord with all her heart. She would light up every room she walked into with her infectious smile. Even though she stood only 4'11'', she had the biggest presence in the room. She was determined to succeed in everything she touched. She left this Earth doing what she loved most, motorcycling with the man she loved. She is survived by her dad, Michael Short; her mom, Shelley (Main) Short; her siblings, Michael (Candice) Short, Joshua (Jakayla) Short, Jonathan Short, Rheanna Short, Jesse (Katie) Short and Faith Short; her grandparents, Terry and Pat Main and Carol Short; her nieces, Isabella and Mia; and many extended family members in the Pittsburgh Area. ACEVEDO FREDERIC A., M.D. Fox Chapel resident Frederic Acevedo passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, April 17, 2019, after a long struggle with renal cancer. Born on July 17, 1957, in Dumaguete City, Philippines, Frederic moved to Manila at a young age. He graduated salutatorian from La Salle Green Hills and summa cum laude in Pre-Medicine from the University of the Philippines. He went to the University of the Philippines Medical School, where he distinguished himself as a top ranked student and met the love of his life, Deborah Co. He immigrated to the United States in 1984 and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at SUNY Buffalo. After moving to Pittsburgh in 1989, he began private practice at West Penn Hospital and helped to found AIRMED, specializing in pulmonary, sleep medicine, and critical care. He was the director of the ICU at Butler Memorial Hospital, where he worked for 25 years. As president of the Philippine American Medical Society, he led a medical mission in 2013 to his family's ancestral home in Roxas City, Philippines. When Rick wasn't working long hours on call in the ICU, he was an accomplished amateur photographer. His stunning photographs document his love for family, travel, and nature. He also enjoyed watching the birds in his backyard; classical, jazz, and 70s music; Apple products; and spending time with his family. He was a fan and supporter of the Pittsburgh Symphony, WESA, the National Aviary, and the Carnegie Museums. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, and their two daughters, Marisa and Isabel. He was a son of the late Atty. Ambrosio Acevedo; he is also survived by his mother, Purita; and five siblings, Bruce, Raymund, Aurora, Jaime, and Dominic, who live in Manila. Frederic will be remembered for his humility, patience, quiet intelligence, and incredible kindness. He was a role model to family members, friends, and coworkers alike. WOOD BARBARA ANN Age 70, of Imperial, on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Beloved wife of 50 years to David Francis Wood; daughter of Dorothy Rindfuss (Scott) Roth and the late Walter Edgar Scott, Jr.; sister of Walter E. (Susan) Scott III; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will mourn her passing. Barbara was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brookline, an Administrator of St. Pius Residence in Brookline for many years and received an award for the first personal care home to be licensed in Pennsylvania. She was a Deacon at St. Michael and All Angels Lutheran Church for ten years. Barbara earned a Bachelor and Masters degree from Robert Morris College (now R.M.U.) and was a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She was a proponent of holistic medicine and a strong advocate of making elderly nursing home patients feel at home. Early in her career, she was an LPN who worked in Labor and Delivery at Magee Hospital and in Renal Transplants at John Hopkins University in Baltimore. She was a member of National Nurses for Life.
