Brother of the late Joseph Caplan. Grandfather of Craig (Marcy), Brian (April), Eric (Danna) Hersh and Arielle Baumgarten. Great-grandfather of Jenna, Jordan, Avery and Hadley Hersh. The family is deeply indebted to his devoted caregivers. Dr. Caplan was born in California, PA to parents, Dora Freedman and Philip Caplan. Paul moved to Pittsburgh as a young man and attended the University of Pittsburgh, both as an undergrad and for Medical School, Class of '36. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving as Captain in the United States Army Air Force. Dr. Caplan landed in Normandy, Omaha Beach on D-Day Plus Five. He founded the practice Arthritis and Diagnostic Associates in Oakland, retiring at the age of 95. He was the International Tour Physician for the Pittsburgh Symphony for over 17 years. He received numerous honors and awards throughout his illustrious career as a renowned physician, rheumatologist, and researcher. Services and interment PRIVATE. EDWARD J. ALO Age 90, of Cranberry Twp., passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020, while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Twp. Born on June 30, 1929, in Erie, he was the son of the late Joseph D. Alo and Lena Chimenti Alo. Ed proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. From 1958 until his retirement in 1992, he worked for U.S. Steel as a systems analyst. Ed was a faithful member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Cranberry Twp. He was active in the Boy Scouts with his sons. He volunteered at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, helping in the computer center that he helped establish. In his free time, Ed enjoyed traveling, gardening and leatherworking. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Olive Tiller Alo, whom he married on December 15, 2001; his children, Joseph A. (Rose) Alo of Central, NY, Loretta Lori Maloney and her husband, Joseph, of Cranberry Twp., and Lisa (Allison) Alo of Freedom; his grandchildren, Melissa, Cheryl, Eddie, Joey, Maggie, Mickey and Katie; his siblings, Robert (Nancy) Alo of Newark, CA, Edith Coccarelli of Erie, and Richard (Serafina) Alo of Houston, TX; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alan was active at Parkway Jewish Center where he served as a board member. He also coached his sons' soccer and baseball teams and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. THOMAS C. BOUR Age 88, of Shaler Twp. on March 8, 2020. Loving husband of Nancy R. (Schwartz) Bour for 61 years. Devoted father of four: Thomas W., Catherine (Richard) Jones, William H. (Sharon Simms) and Jennifer (John) Buckley; Pappy to 11 wonderful grandchildren. Son of the late Harry P. and Anna Bour. Born March 21, 1932, in Pittsburgh (Carrick). Graduated from Carrick H.S. in 1950, was drafted into the U.S. Army in Jan. 1953, and served his tour of duty in the Corps of Engineers at Fort Richardson, Alaska. Immediately after discharge from the Army he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering and graduated in 1959 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. (PPG Industries now) and remained there for 37 years until retiring at the age of 65. At PPG he worked 18 years in fiber glass research where he was granted seven patents relating to fiber glass manufacture. The remaining 19 years of his career were as a Senior Manufacture Engineer. In this position he traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and S. America in support of PPG glass fiber technology. Tom was an enthusiastic participant in the sports of tennis, skiing, and skating into his early 80's. He began building backyard ice rinks as soon as the children were old enough to skate and was pleased that they continued this tradition ever since with their own children. Tom and Nancy enjoyed vacation travel to National Parks and historical sites. They especially enjoyed shorter trips to the mountains of North Carolina where they explored the back roads in search of creative quilters and the best eateries featuring that delicious smoked pork Bar-B-Q. Preceded in death by sister, Dorothy Davis; brothers, William and David; survived by sister, Elizabeth Egan; and sister-in-law, Margaret Brickner; Uncle Tom to many loving nieces and nephews. Tom died Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Concordia at Rebecca Residence with his family at his bedside. He received loving care from the staff members. ANNETTE I. GLASER Age 99, of Port Vue, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2020 at Woodhaven Care Center in Monroeville, PA. She was born August 17, 1920, in Pittsburgh, to the late John Anthony and Margaret Daily Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the late Arthur E. Glaser; and her daughter, Jayne Plescia; and sister, Florence McConnell. Annette retired as a medical secretary from Steel Valley Orthopedics and was a member of St. Mark Parish, (the former St. Joseph Church) where she was a former president and former secretary of the parish council and served on the Ladies of Charity, was a former president of the McKeesport Art Group, former secretary of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, and former secretary of the Port Vue Seniors. She is survived by her children, Arthur (Marilyn) Glaser of Ocean City, Maryland, John (Joan) Glaser of Beavercreek, Ohio, Donna (Mike) Hanna of Santa Barbara, California, Mark (Gail) Glaser of Butler, Rebecca Glaser of Forest Hills; son-in-law, Michael Plescia of Ft. Myers Florida; and sister, Marguerite Mitchell of Forest Hills. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey Glaser, Jacqueline Glaser (Carlo) Serrangeli, Julie Glaser, and Jill Glaser (Brando) Reyna, Lisa (James) Clement, Betsy (Ian) Dryburgh, Chelsea (James) Brewer, Katlyn (Kyle) Davis, Anton Bubolz, Nina (Matthew) Gettemy, Michael (Ximena) Hannah, Justice (Susi) Hannah, Olivia (Tyler) McGoffin; and 14 great-grandchildren. When asked for her greatest piece of life advice at the age of 99, Annette responded "Always be kind. Love one another." She radiated this sentiment throughout her entire life, a true "angel on earth" who was the embodiment of kindness, honesty and selflessness. She will be remembered for her energy, professionalism, caring, and dedication to helping others.
