EDWARD F. ROCKMAN A prominent Pittsburgh CPA, of Briar Cliff Road, died in his sleep May 15th. He was 79. A graduate of Sayre (PA) High School and Dickinson College, Ed received his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1964 and went to work at Bachrach, Sanderbeck & Co. He became a CPA soon thereafter. Throughout his career, he provided guidance to a multitude of Pittsburgh small businesses and was a force in setting standards for the profession. Ed was a former shareholder and director of quality control with Alpern Rosenthal. A former member of the AICPA's Auditing Standards Board, he served on several task forces, including the Audit Issues Task Force. He also served on AICPA's Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council, the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) Executive Committee, and the PCPS Technical Issues Committee. Ed was a long time Board member, devoted supporter, and friend of the Pittsburgh arts organization, Contemporary Craft (CC). After working with the group as head of the nonprofit audit division at Alpern Rosenthal, he joined CC's Board in 2008 and served in many different roles including Board Chair, member of the Executive Committee and the Capitalization Committee, as well as Audit Committee Chair. Ed was a trusted advisor who helped the organization as it navigated its relocation from the Produce Terminal to Lawrenceville. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the North Hills for nearly 50 years, twice serving as the President, among many other leadership roles. PETER JAMES TERIS Age 61, originally from Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood passed away at his home in Peters Township after bravely battling pancreatic cancer. He was the son of late James George Teris and the late Demetra Makris Teris; husband of Paula Teris; father of his beloved, and departed Peter Emmanuel Teris; and surviving son, Theodore Teris; brother of Christina (the late Kyriacous) Kakoullis; and uncle to Dimitri, Savvas, and Alexandros. A true entrepreneur, Peter operated Teris Parking since 1981 and expanded into real estate throughout the years. He and his wife, Paula Babac Teris operated their parking lots with the motto “Parking Our Pittsburgh Neighbors.” If you parked to go to The University of Pittsburgh, worked downtown, hockey game, Steeler Games, 4th of July Fireworks, St. Patrick's Day parade, you probably parked at some point with Teris Parking. But, Peter loved and supported the Pathfinder School and thought the world of the staff and loved the children. Peter was a true optimist and despite losing both parents at a young age, found humor and joy in the world through baseball, singing, and time with his family. Peter also had no problem pointing out the obvious, and had a quick wit unmatched. He was compassionate, and the friend you wanted if life was difficult, and found the good in everyone. Peter leaves behind a legacy of laughter and perseverance that nothing is impossible. He had hundreds of friends from grade school to recently from all walks of life, and he touched everyone's life he met. May his memory be eternal. Peter's viewing will be at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church at 123 Gilkeson Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15228 from 9:30 a.m. To 11:00 a.m. The church will be live streaming the funeral service on their website. OLIVER E. SHOEMAKER Age 70, of Gibsonia, formerly Peters Township, on May 15, 2020. Born on October 10, 1949 in North Charleroi, PA, son of the late Oliver and Lucy Bernowski Shoemaker. Beloved husband for 42 years of Rita Niederberger Shoemaker. Loving father of Jessica Shoemaker of Arlington, VA and Lauren (Craig) Bustos of Denver, CO; brother of Edith (Robert) King of Myrtle Beach, SC; proud grandfather of Olivia Bustos. Oliver was a longtime Pittsburgh-based mortgage banker and a friend and mentor to many in the Pittsburgh real estate community. He earned a Ph.D. in Urban Affairs in 1978 from the University of Pittsburgh and was an avid Pitt fan. Oliver also earned the distinction of Member, Appraisal Institute (MAI) in 1985. His time in graduate school serving as a Resident Assistant and College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) academic advisor never left him, as he particularly relished mentoring young people. Under Oliver's tutelage, his daughters, son-in-law and a nephew followed his footsteps into commercial real estate. He used his extensive network to help countless others find their professional paths. Oliver's unmatched work ethic was developed at a young age, as evidenced by earning the Eagle Scout distinction at age 14 and being inducted into the Charleroi Area High School Soccer Hall of Fame. During his working days, he was out the door before dawn in order to be home in time for dinner with his family. He believed that any issue was surmountable; it just required starting the day that much earlier. Although he received business awards and recognition over the years, the greatest measure of his success was the mutual devotion he and his wife Rita had for each other and the love they shared for their children. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, LTD., Bakerstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. GERALDINE A. (WHITE) DELFINE "GERRY" Age 81, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, after a long battle with dementia, on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Gerry leaves behind her beloved husband of over 57 years, Ronald R. Delfine; her children, Gina (Marty), Karen (Sue) and Ron (Jane); two grandchildren, Cassidy and Van; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel (Felton) White; brother, Sonny (Ginny); and sisters, Frances (Cleon) Newton, Jean (Walt) McGann, MaryAnn (Nick) Waller, and Sally (John) Smith. Gerry was born on January 28, 1939, in Connellsville, PA, and was the youngest of the six children. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School (1956) and Grace Martin Business School (1958). She landed a secretarial job in the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh where she met a Pitt football player and the love of her life, Ronald Delfine of Canonsburg, PA. Ron and Gerry were married on July 28, 1962 and settled in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, PA to raise their family. Gerry worked several part-time jobs in the area while her children attended school, including as a secretary at McSorley's restaurant and in the J.C. Penny catalogue center at Thrift Drug. As her children grew older, she worked full-time as an executive secretary for the company that would become Quest Diagnostics. Everywhere she went, Gerry's bright and cheerful disposition brought peace, love and joy to those around her. She had a warm, welcoming way about her that put others at ease. Gerry had a huge heart and was a patient, kind, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She had a clever, witty, good-natured sense of humor allowing her to smile easily and laugh often. Gerry was bright, knowledgeable, wise, and a good listener. People could count on her to be in their corner, on their side, their greatest cheerleader and biggest fan. Playing the piano, singing, cooking, baking, reading, sewing, playing cards and games, solving word puzzles, gardening, walking in the park and taking trips to the lake or ocean were some of her favorite activities, but most often, she could be found at home, in her living room or backyard, spending time with her husband, family, friends and neighbors. Gerry was known to have a creative, inventive, talent for cooking. She had a knack for putting together “a little of this and a little of that” to concoct delicious, often imitated but seldom duplicated dishes. It was not uncommon to hear Gerry cheerfully singing or humming along to a song, while wonderful aromas of homemade bread, pie, pizza, wedding soup or lasagna filled the air of her home. Gerry could best be described as a real sweetheart, and her enduring, devoted relationship with her husband and best friend, Ron, a genuine and true love story. Though the illness affected many aspects of her personality, some of Gerry's most endearing qualities, such as her kindness, appreciation of others and certain elements of her quirky sense of humor, managed to still shine through. Nothing can erase the memory of her sparkling, Irish eyes, warm, friendly smile, fun-loving spirit, humorous quips and light-hearted laughter, which will remain forever in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known her. No visitation or memorial services will be held at this time. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
