VASALE SUZANNE F. Age 73, of Charleston, WV, died at The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio, after a year long battle with squamous cell carcinoma. Sue was the daughter of Frederick R. Franke, MD and Nancy Digby Franke of Pittsburgh, PA, who predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Vasale of Charleston, WV; daughters, Erica Herrick Newhouse of New York and Sarah Newhouse Benisch of Connecticut; stepchildren, Petra L. Vasale of Charleston, WV, Pierce A. Vasale (Rachel) of North Carolina and Chase A. Vasale of New Jersey. The firstborn of five children, Sue is survived by siblings, Frederick R. Franke, Jr. (Anne) of Harwood, MD, Paul D. Franke (Deborah) of Pittsburgh, PA, John C. Franke of Rancho Mirage, CA, and Virginia Franke Kleist (Paul) of Pittsburgh, PA. Sue is also survived by three grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews. Sue was a graduate of The Ellis School, The University of Wisconsin, Madison, Marshall University Graduate College and West Virginia State University. Sue spent her early career in advertising for several large department stores in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Great Falls, MT. After returning to school to earn her MBA and Accounting Certificate, Sue had a second career working for non-profit organizations, The Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Black Diamond Girl Scout Council, The Education Alliance, and the West Virginia Humanities Council. Having retired as the Chief Financial Officer for the West Virginia Humanities Council in 2009, Sue enjoyed traveling, gardening, The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and The Charleston Chamber Music Society concerts, art of all sorts, especially paintings by local artists. Sue loved tidying up everything within reach and couldn't tolerate a painting hanging crooked on a wall. More than anything, though, she loved all five of her children and her three grandchildren. Family gatherings were more important to her than any of her earthly possessions. Christmas gatherings and summer family vacations were her favorite times. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service for Sue at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier Street, Charleston, WV on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception at the family's home to follow. CROSS SALLY L. Age 76, of Cornen Street, Bradford, died September 21, 2017, at her residence. She was employed as a Real Estate Agent for 40 years, retiring from Coldwell Banker Realty. She was actively involved in Republican politics and the Moon Township Republican Committee having served as Republican Committee Woman and Auditor, and a member of the Aliquippa VFW Auxiliary. Surviving are three children, Stephanie Erskine, Leslie Paige, Christopher Cross and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Cross, and one son, Drake Cross. DINMAN BERTRAM Age 92, of Scott Township, on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Husband of Gabrielle Dinman (Stamm); father of Jonathan Dinman (Rachel Cohen), Emily Dinman Mahoney (Eugene), Joshua (Theresa) and Stefanie (deceased). Served in the U.S. Army 138th Engineer Combat Battalion in WWII where he participated in the liberation of the Ohrdruf concentration camp. Earned his M.D. from Temple Univ. Medical School and Sc.D. in Industrial Medicine from University of Cincinnati. Served on the faculty of Occupational Medicine at Ohio State University, and was a Professor of Public Health at the University of Michigan. He was an internationally recognized pioneer in understanding the effects of pollution on human health. After a sabbatical year at the International Labor Organization, Geneva, Switzerland he moved to Pittsburgh where he became the Executive VP of Health and Safety at Alcoa. After retiring from Alcoa, he joined the faculty at the School of Public Health at University of Pittsburgh, with a term at Oxford University, England. Dr. Dinman served as president of the American Academy of Occupational Medicine 1974-75. Along with his wife and children, he is survived by grandchildren, Valerie Mahoney Kraf (Edward), Ian Mahoney, Elisabeth Mahoney, Baily Dinman, Chloe Dinman, Olivia Dinman, Sophia Dinman, Elena Dinman and Jacob Dinman. DEMBLOWSKI JOSEPH MICHAEL Age 94, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017 in his home. Joe was born on July 15, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of the late Anna and Martin Demblowski. Joe married Eileen on September 16, 1947. They were happy to celebrate their 70th anniversary together with his family before he passed away. Cherished father of Kathleen (Alan) Matta, Marjorie, Gary, Edward and Nancy; dear grandfather of seven grandchildren; and great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. Joe was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased in death by his siblings, Austin, Charles, Martha, Paul and Martin. Joe began his career as an owner of a Texaco gas station. He then worked at Sears in the Appliances section. He ended his career as a bus driver for Bethel Park. He touched the hearts of many children and their families and was a humble servant who influenced anyone he met. He resided in Pittsburgh, PA his entire life but he enjoyed traveling and taking vacations at the beach with his family. He was the patriarch of the family whose endearing traits and love for life will be passed on for many generations. Joe was a member of various churches and served in many different capacities from a greeter to deacon. He loved to sing hymns in the choir and with his family, recite Bible verses and spend his mornings in prayer and devotion with his wife. At the family's request, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
