HETHERINGTON ROBERT “BOB” Age 94, of Moon Township, PA, passed away at 5:28 a.m. at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh on September 29, 2017. He leaves a wife of 43 years, Marie Jane (Godin) Hetherington; a son, Robert Andrew Hetherington; his daughter, Susan Jean Hetherington Changnon; his son, Richard Craig Hetherington and his wife, Joan Smith Hetherington; his stepdaughter, Nancy (Leslie) Geisler and her husband, Gary Geisler; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born on May 25, 1923, in Gloucester City, New Jersey, he was the son of Andrew Hetherington of Belfast, Ireland, and Ella (Van Hest) Hetherington. Bob moved to Coraopolis, PA in the 1930's as a boy with his parents and two sisters, Elinore and Andrea when his father took at job as foreman at Dravo on Neville Island. Bob survived scarlet fever as a child, worked as a “soda jerk” at Cutts' Drug Store in his teens, and graduated from Coraopolis High School in 1942. In February 1943, Bob enlisted in the US Army and served in World War II. After training in the US, England and Ireland, he hit the beach on D-Day. He served in the 5th Infantry Division of General George Patton's 3rd Army, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of Paris in 1944. When taken prisoner by the Germans for 20 minutes, he narrowly escaped death only to be saved by the 101st US Army Airborne Division. For his military service, Bob received 3 Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. After the war, Bob returned home to his family and married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Jean “Billie” Nesbit on April 3, 1946, and attended college on the GI Bill. First he went to Bethany College in West Virginia and later to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. While there, he worked at Cahen's Clothing Store, started a family, built his own home on Park Drive, and graduated with an Accounting degree. Bob worked at Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company (PDM) on Neville Island for all of his professional career, first as Assistant to the President, then as an accountant, and later as the Assistant Traffic and Transportation Manager. In the 1960's, PDM built The St. Louis Arch and Bob shipped fabricated steel to build the World Trade Centers in New York City in the 1970's. He belonged to and served as Treasurer for the Traffic and Transportation Association of Pittsburgh. Following the passing of his wife, Billie, in 1971, Bob met and married Marie in 1974. They shared many years together traveling, dancing, bowling, playing the organ, and loving their families. Bob belonged to the Free and Accepted Masons, Coraopolis Lodge No. 674, The Elks, and The VFW. He was a faithful and active church member for over 80 years at Mt. Calvary United Presbyterian Church, now called The Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, where he served several terms as deacon and elder. Bob had a passion for building things and he built his own house in 1955. He loved dogs, his cars, music, sports – playing baseball and basketball. He enjoyed playing pool and ping pong, played acoustic guitar in his younger years and a Lowry Organ throughout his retirement years. He loved to tell a good story – especially his stories from WWII. Mostly, he was a devoted family man, a good husband and father, who loved his family deeply. He will be missed. Visitation will be on Monday, October 2, 2017, at COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, 867 Fifth Avenue, Coraopolis, PA 15108 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, 1201 5th Avenue (Everyone meet at Church) with interment in the Coraopolis Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Church. ZULA RICHARD F. Of North Huntingdon, born and raised in Braddock, died on Friday, September 29, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Josephine (Bodzenski) Zula; and his special aunt, Margaret Zula; dear brother of George C. (Michele) Zula of North Huntingdon; loving uncle of Kyra Lynn (Chris) Zula of North Huntingdon, George M. (Melissa) Zula of Carrollton, Texas and Richard M. (Michele) Zula of North Huntingdon; proud great-uncle of Michael G., George J., Abigail and Richard M. Zula, Jr. and Nicole (Jim) Berner. Also survived by numerous cousins and other relatives. Richard was a 1958 graduate of St. Thomas High School and attended Duquesne University before graduating from St. Vincent College. He was ordained a priest in 1966 and served with various parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Richard appreciated and collected iconography, and enjoyed studying and discussing Early Eastern European history. His special passion was spending time with his family and friends and cooking ethnic dishes, especially Eastern European cuisine. Married on November 28, 1957, he was the beloved husband for 52 years of the late Marie (Thomas) Grogan; son of the late James and Violet (Stevens) Grogan; brother of Lois Brennfleck, Grace Devine, Nancy Buchlmayer, Tom Grogan, and the late Lois, Lillian, Bill, Paul, and Jim Grogan. PITEK ANNA MARIE (BASICH) Formerly of Moon Township, PA, was peacefully taken from this earth on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Halifax Health Hospice, Port Orange Care Center in Florida. She was born in Edenborn, PA, on March 23, 1921, to the late Michael and Catherine (Repish) Basich, Sr. She married the love of her life, Michael P. Pitek, Jr., on May 10, 1947, and is now united with him in heaven. Michael P. Pitek, Jr. passed on August 4, 1998. Michael would refer to his beloved as “Hun.” He and “Hun” had two adoring sons, Michael P. Pitek III (spouse, Catherine Reich Pitek), of Buffalo, NY, and Barry S. Pitek (spouse, Randy Bennett), with whom she made her new home as of June 6, 2017, in Port Orange, FL. She was deeply devoted to her faith and her family. Anna Marie was a giving, caring, compassionate woman who was always concerned about others and their feelings. GURBA DAVID J. Age 67, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, following an extended illness. He was born June 12, 1950, in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Irene Mary Bartolameolli Gurba of Mt. Carmel and the late John Alexander Gurba. Mr. Gurba was a graduate of Trinity High School in Mechanicsburg and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business at Elizabethtown College. Prior to his retirement, he was a sales executive at the food brokerage firm of Acosta, Inc. He lived in the Washington area since 1996 where he was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Heart Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Gurba was an avid sailor who was on the water as much as possible, also an airplane pilot, skier and a diehard Steelers fan. He loved animals and rescued many boxers to include his pet dog, Bella. Left behind to cherish his memory, in addition to his mother, are his two beloved daughters, Karin Gurba Lang and her husband, Jim of Ashburn, Virginia and Rebecca Gurba Cooper and her husband, Roy of Herndon, Virginia; two grandsons, Jacob C. Lang and Lucas J. Lang; and his former wife and dear friend, Dale Sunday. LEE PATRICK FRANCIS Age 75, of Rosslyn Farms. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Those who knew and loved Patrick enjoyed his sense of humor, love for music and charismatic personality. He was always there to join in a good Irish joke, blessing or beverage. He grew up calling Crafton, Crafton Heights and Oakland (just to name a few) home. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and then began a long career in sales. He grew his career with AM Varityper, living in Washington D.C., Detroit, Rochester, New York City and finally returned to Pittsburgh as the Regional Sales Manager. Patrick met his match, Patricia Lee, when a friend introduced the two Pat Lees at a local bowling alley. They married in 1966. They added their daughter Rebecca in 1977 and continue to call Rosslyn Farms home. He enjoyed traveling with close friends and family to Nags Head and Cape May, performing in local singing and musical troupes, cheering on the Steelers and typesetting many of the programs for Carlynton High School plays and musicals (91-95). He and his partner, Bob Graham, donated the GramLee Collection of Early American Commercial Wood Engravings to West Virginia University, which is the largest collection of 19th century wood engravings in the US. Patrick will be missed, but not forgotten. Born on May 21, 1942, beloved husband to Patricia (Lee) Lee; loving father of Rebecca (Lee) Wells and father-in-law to Jimmy Wells; cherished brother of Jim (Jeanne), Bill (the late Romayne), Dick (Nancy), Marion (Ed) Levandowski and Larry (Carolyn); proud grandfather (aka "Stumpy") to Keegan James and Finnegan Foley Wells; cousin of Sr. Louise and Br. GAULT RALPH M. Age 87, on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, formerly of Carrick and Baldwin. Beloved husband for 67 years to Mary Jane (Race) Gault; loving father of Janine M. Del Signore and David R. Gault, Jr. Ralph was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was always the life of the party and quick with a joke. He was also a devoted member of the Carrick High School Alumni Association and an active member of Hamilton Presbyterian Church for 57 years. Ralph was known for the smile on his face, and always being able to make everyone else feel better after being with him up until the very end. Beloved husband of the late Cynthia Oleinick; father of Peter (Barbara) Oleinick, Jon (Tracy) Oleinick, Michele (late Charles) Dusenberry, and Lee (Lisa) Oleinick; brother of Arnold (Sandy) and Irving (Nancy) Oleinick, and the late Milton and Cru Oleinick; grandfather of Stephen Dusenberry, Jason Oleinick, Rachel Oleinick, Sarah Dillon, Anna Levy, and Cydnie, and Andrew Oleinick; also survived by four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Julius was the founder of several education-related businesses including ICM School (Institute of Computer Management), Compulearn, DAPCO, and PicturePages, a Golden Globe award-winning children's television show on Captain Kangaroo and Nickelodeon. He was a lifetime member of Beth Hamedrash Hagadol Beth Jacob Congregation. KEEFER VIOLET FAYE Age 76, of Allison Park, on October 1, 2017. Loving wife of 60 years to William Stephen Keefer II. Preceded in death by her parents, James and Rossi McLaurin; brothers, Larry and H.D. McLaurin; her sister, Emily Grimsley; and granddaughter, Lara Smith; devoted mother of Theresa Grundza (Joseph), Karen Keefer Stroup (Chad), Eugene Keefer (Carol), Kimberly Keefer Tupper (George), William Stephen Keefer III (Robyn) and Verner Kevin Keefer (Deneen). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and her two sisters, Myrtle Lambert and Shirley Naylor of Fayetteville, N.C. Faye enjoyed gardening and doing a variety of arts and crafts. She was retired from the Inheritance Tax Office in the city county building of Pittsburgh. What she enjoyed most was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always made her house a “HOME.” The Keefer family wishes to extend thanks and gratitude to the Good Samaritan Lutheran Services staff, both in Wexford and Cabot, PA, for their kindness and compassion they gave to Faye and her family.
