Mary graduated from Stowe H.S. in 1946 and went on to work for Bell Telephone. In 1951, she met and fell in love with her husband of 39 years, Peter. Their love encompassed Forever and a Day. Mary was devoted to her husband and children. She was an avid baker and cake decorator. She loved working puzzles, reading mystery novels and caring for her children and grandchildren. We were truly blessed to have her as long as we did, Mary will be missed by many. ALVI LAURA V. POWER Age 80, of Eighty Four, PA (Peters Twp.), passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, in her home. She was born in Beallsville, PA, a daughter of the late Fred N. and Laura B. Hickman Power. Mrs. Alvi was a 1955 graduate of Ellsworth High School and also graduated from Point Park College with an Associate's Degree. She was employed as a Surgical Office Manager for Dr. Linhart Ophthalmology and as an Executive Assistant for both PPG Corp. and Allegheny Airlines. Laura was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, D.A.R., Colonial Dames and Giant Oaks Garden Club. Mrs. Alvi was a Certified Landscape Design Artist who also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and genealogy. She had a great love for her family and was considered the family historian. One of her greatest joys was listening to her daughter sing. On October 6, 1967, she married Javaid M. Alvi who survives. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Also surviving is a daughter, Diba N. Alvi of Ellicott City, MD; many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased in addition to her parents are 10 brothers and sisters. FOSTER THOMAS STEPHEN Of Brentwood, PA, died peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the age of 91. He was born to James and Hilda Foster on May 28, 1926, and was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Foster; and siblings, Ada Sponagle, Patsy George, and James Foster. Tom is survived by his three children, Dave (Jo Anne) Foster, Lynn Foster, and Amy Gillot; he was the beloved Pappy to Karly Foster and Tommy, Kristy, and Matthew Gillot, as well as to great-grandsons, Andrew and Zackary Cianflone. Tom was a naval veteran in WWII who was in Tokyo Bay the day the war ended. He went on to be a technician at Westinghouse and retired in 1988 to spend time with his family and enjoy his love of aviation history. Tom was loved and adored by all. LOWMASTER DENNIS ALLEN Age 70, of Pittsburgh, passed away following a twelve-year battle with cancer at UPMC Seneca Place in Verona, PA, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Dennis was born in Punxsutawney on September 29, 1947, to the late Telford Jonathan Jack and Lois Jean (Reed) Lowmaster. Dennis married Kay Lorraine Fostiak on January 10, 1970. Kay survives and resides in Pittsburgh. Dennis was a US Navy veteran and served on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. Following service to his country, Dennis attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with honors with a Baccalaureate of Science in Safety. He was then employed by the U.S. Department of Labor and Mine Safety and Health Administration. Dennis was a gentle spirit with a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke around. He enjoyed sports, was a huge Steelers fan, liked watching John Wayne movies and old westerns, and was especially fond of animals. But most of all, Dennis loved his family and friends. He and his friend John Fisk met each other during the Vietnam War and became very close, lifelong friends. Dennis and his wife were members of the New Beginnings Church in Forbes Road, PA. Dennis was a wonderful husband, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Dennis is survived by his wife, Kay; his brothers, Doug Muggsy Lowmaster and wife, Cheryl of Coolspring, and Kenneth Lowmaster and wife, Linda of Tonawanda, NY; he is also survived by his special aunt, Debby Wasicki and husband, Frank of Anita; and his uncle, Paul Reed and wife, Betty of Anita. In addition to his parents, Jack and Lois Lowmaster, Dennis was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and David Lowmaster; and his uncle, Ronald Reed.
