MANN BETTY Betty died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, of complications following a stroke. She was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Lansdale, PA, in her parents' home. The family soon moved to Germantown, a part of Philadelphia. Betty graduated from Germantown High School and then Hood College. In 1942, she married Robert Mann, a mechanical engineer. During all of these years, Betty was a full time wife, mother and homemaker, an avid bridge player and devoted member of Sewickley Presbyterian Church. Betty loved playing golf, and a special Betty Mann Tournament was established at the Allegheny County Club on her 80th birthday and is still held every September. An enthusiastic community thespian, Betty acted in multiple performances of the local 8:40 Group in the 1960s, including "The Man Who Came to Dinner," and she participated in a theatrical review celebrating the centennial of the Allegheny Country Club in her 80s. In their later years, Bob and Betty traveled the world together, visiting six continents. Betty loved nothing more than a good party with dancing, and she celebrated her 80th birthday with one of the best dinner dances ever.
