Anna always knew what was important in life, and she passed that insight along not only to her children, but everyone she touched. Anna nurtured a strong love of Mary and faith in Jesus and practiced her religion with great fervor and commitment. She was first and foremost a loving and attentive wife, a role in which she took great pride and joy. In her final days, she thought about nothing more than the imminent comfort of being with her beloved Mickey again. Surrounded by her children, those she spent a lifetime shepherding into the kingdom of God, she welcomed the passage to heaven with open arms. Throughout her life, she clothed herself in strength and dignity and taught wisdom and kindness. She loved and was loved by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She referred to all of them as "all my little kiddies". Living her life in Sharpsburg, PA, she was a member of the St. Juan Diego Parish, where she was an organist. She owned and operated Mary Frances Beauty Salon for over 40 years. She was a member of NIASHF, ISDA and Daughters of Liberty. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen while passing on family traditions; some to include Christmas fruitcake, Easter bread, and her famous "Knot cookies". DONGIOVANNI SAVERO Age 90, born in Vandergrift, PA, grew up in Bloomfield and raised his family in West Mifflin, PA. He lived his final years in Palm Harbor, Florida where he passed away on July 29, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Gray DonGiovanni; children, Bill, Judy and Steve; and his grandchildren, Sydney (his little princess) and Vinny (the Vin Man). He was raised by Rose and Lou DeShantz with whom he had numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by sister, Millie; brother, Lou; sister, Rose; and preceded in death by sisters, Mary and Teenie; and brother, Dom. He was the son of Florence and Vito DonGiovanni and survived by sister, Chris; and preceded in death by his sister, Marie; and brothers, Fran and Mickey. He had many nieces and nephews whom he loved each and every one. After graduating from Schenley High School, he entered the service to become a decorated Army Sergeant. Honorably discharged, after serving his country in the Korean War, he continued his education at Duquense University, where he received his bachelor's degree. He continued his education and graduated University of Pittsburgh with his master's degree. He was a longtime educator at his beloved Connelley Vocational Tech & Adult Education Center in the Pittsburgh Public School system. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and had a passion for golfing. His optimism for life, positive attitude, contagious smile and laugh will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Holy Angels Church, 408 Baldwin Rd., Hays PA. A proud Central Catholic High School alum (Class of '53), Chuck was looking forward to celebrating his 65th reunion with classmates. He was certainly there in spirit last week. A lifelong Pittsburgher, he served as a dedicated City Police Officer for 29 years. Chuck was an active member of St Raphael Parish for 52 years, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and money counter. With an ever-present smile on his face, Chuck enjoyed life to the fullest, never letting anything dampen his spirits or slow him down. Always willing to try something new, his standard answer to new suggestions was Why not? She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, in Irwin and its Funeral Choir and the Women's Guild/Christian Mothers. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William K. Merrell; a son, William R. Merrell; daughters, Dolores Chris Merrell Sosinski, infant Sylvia Merrell; son-in-law, Robert Fike; a brother, Al Kohl; and sisters, Louise, Kathleen, Desales, Margaret and Marie.
