FRANK JANET ARLENE Age 92, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018. She was born October 5, 1925 in Lafayette, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Theodore William and Jessie Lockard Davis. She was the wife of the late Theodore M. Frank who died in April 1974. Janet was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, and was an avid crafter. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years, a member of The Elizabeth Township Senior Citizens, and was the past President of the former Mt. Vernon AARP, where she loved booking trips most notably to Ohio, New York and Branson, Missouri. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. (James) Ramsey of Boston; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother, William Lee Davis. There is no visitation. KIRKMAN BARBARA (KOCHANSKI) Funeral services for will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Ward officiating.  Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans' Cemetery under the direction of JEANE'S FUNERAL SERVICE. Visitation for the family and friends of Mrs. Kirkman will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 23rd at Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Kirkman was born on August 29, 1945, and passed away on August 21, 2018, at the age of 72.  She was born and raised in the southside of Pittsburgh, PA and was a devoted military wife for 18 years.  Together with her husband, Phillip, she traveled all over the United States and lived in Germany for a little while.  For over 35 years, Mrs. Kirkman worked at the Slagle Grocery Store and never met a stranger. She made friends with everyone she met. Mrs. Kirkman was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Anna Kochanski. Left to cherish their memories of her are her husband of nearly 50 years, Phillip Kirkman; sisters, Mary Ann Ebitz and husband, Robert and Susan Peoples and husband, William both of Oakmont, PA; nephew, Michael Ebitz of Oakmont, PA; niece, Melissa Freshour and husband, Matt of Flagstaff, AZ; great-nephew, Landon Freshour of Flagstaff, AZ; great-niece, Brook Freshour of Flagstaff, AZ. MARTINELLI MARY U. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at age 103. Of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Regent Square and East Liberty, Mary was born December 4, 1914 in Midway, Pennsylvania, the second child and first daughter of Mary and Anton Urbancic. Mary grew up in Southview, PA. After coming to Pittsburgh PA during World War II to work at Union Switch and Signal supporting US troops overseas, she met Tony Martinelli, whom she married in 1943. After the birth of their first daughter, Lucille, Mary became a stay at home mother and the family grew to include two additional daughters, Roseann and Barbara. Mary and Tony were blessed with 54 years of marriage until Tony's death in 1997. Mary was also preceded in death by her 10 brothers and sisters, Tony, Frank, Rose, Christine (Sederoff), Alvin, Alberta (Hritz), John, Mathilda (Tardio), Henry and Louis. Mary leaves behind her daughters, Lucille Sleger (Kenneth), Roseann Ward (the late Jack), and Barbara Martinelli (Rob Dillon), her grandchildren, John Ward (Jennifer), Michelle Ward Holzwarth (Drew), and Shannon Sleger, as well as her five great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Christina, and Alec Ward and Andrew and Michael Holzwarth. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. VESELINOVICH NICK After many years of proudly beating the odds, Nick Veselinovich was called to the Lord on Wednesday, August 22 at the age of 84. Nick was living with his wife, Maria Reinsprecht Veselinovich, and his daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Michael Mabunay, in Sparta, NJ, at the time of his death. Nick was a survivor of two quadruple bypasses, colon cancer and congestive heart failure. His determination and strength to overcome all of these monumental diagnoses will serve as an inspiration to all who loved him. Nick was born in Duquesne, PA to parents Dan Veselinovich and Mary Sekerak; and was a loving brother to his sister, Dolores Veselinovich Dubois of West Mifflin, PA; and to his brother and sister, George Veselinovich and Dessie Veselinovich Stanich, both of whom lived in Downey, CA and preceded him in death. Nick served as a medic in the U.S. army in Korea during the Korean Conflict, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and achieved the rank of Corporal. Nick married his loving and devoted wife, Maria, in 1956. As a testament to his determination and tenacity, Nick attended nine years of night school at what is now Carnegie Mellon University while working full time as a draftsman at United States Steel Corporation and supporting his young family. He graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and his wife and children will never forget attending his commencement. Nick went on to earn his Professional Engineer license, and he worked for United States Steel Corporation until his retirement. After earning his degree, Nick lived with his family in North Huntingdon, PA, where he and his wife enjoyed hosting many dinner parties and picnics. Nick gained renown for barbequing Serbian style pig on a spit in his home-made outdoor brick oven. Nick was passionate about his Serbian heritage, and he was well-read on all things Serbian. He was a faithful follower of Christ, and an active member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville, PA, as well as the St. Nicholas Church Choir. Nick and his wife, Maria, retired to Sunset Beach, NC in 1996, where he pursued his other passion of fishing. Nick and Maria were members of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, SC. During their retirement years they created life-long memories with their grandchildren, Nick and Katy, by accompanying them as volunteers for many summers to St. Sava Camp in Shadeland, PA. Nick is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Maria; his daughter, Sylvia Mabunay, and son-in-law, Michael Mabunay; and his daughter, Maria Henry, and son-in-law, Will Henry; Nick is “Dedo” to his loving grandchildren, Nick (Jessica) Mabunay of Boston, MA, Katy Mabunay of Los Angeles, CA, and Jake Henry of Colorado Springs, CO; Nick is adoring great-grandfather to Grace and Connor Mabunay of Boston, MA. Nick would tell you that it was hard life, and also a really wonderful life. CHARLTON-FRYE NERVERTA Age 91, of O'Hara Twp., formerly of Cheswick, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2018. She was born October 20, 1926 to her parents, the late John and Maude Jones Beyer and has been a lifelong resident of the community. She graduated Mars High School in 1944 and was a member of St. Edwards Church in Blawnox. She volunteered at her former parish, Our Lady of Victory Church where she was the coordinator of religious studies and instructor of Rite of Christian Initiation of adults. She also was past-president, honorary lifetime board member and dedicated volunteer for the Lower Valley Food Bank. Nerverta also worked at The Veteran's Administration in Aspinwall as a hospice and bereavement counseling volunteer. She received the Jefferson Community Champion Award for all her volunteer work. Mrs. Charlton owned and operated Charlton House Bakery in Oakmont for many years with her first husband William, where she was the cake decorator. They also had a satellite store in the former Cheswick Shopping Center. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers as well as an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast and a voracious reader. Surviving her are, loving children William (Melissa) Charlton Jr., Robert (Adeline) Charlton, Dennis (Lynn) Charlton, David (Connie) Charlton, Larry (Deepak Bisht) Charlton, Carol Lee (Dave) Leathers, Beth (Joe) Zboran; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, William E. Charlton and second husband, Joseph A. Frye; and three sisters and four brothers. GRZYB ALFREDA (HERC) Age 90, of Shaler, Twp., formerly of Polish Hill, surrounded by her family on Friday, August 23, 2018. Beloved wife of the late John Grzyb; loving mother of Ursula (Jim) Brill, Robert (Amy) Grzyb and Christine (Jeffrey DeNinno) Grzyb; devoted Babcia to her grandchildren, Jackie (Dave) Bott, Jim Brill, Jason (Karie) Brill, Ryan, Megan and Brendan Grzyb, Sam and Ada DeNinno; and her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kameron, Kevin and Mya; sister of Gertrude (the late Julian) Jarosz, John (Lynne) Herc, and the late Izydor (surviving wife Helen) Herc; also survived by numerous and cherished nieces and nephews. Alfreda was 11 years old when Poland was invaded in 1939. Her family suffered great hardships during WWII, including being forcibly separated from her parents. God was watching over her family and they survived forced labor and were re-united. They spent the post war years in various Displaced Person (DP) Camps in Germany. While there she met her husband, John, a former prisoner of war, who pursued her and won her over by becoming friendly with her father. She married in the DP Camp and bore her first child there. In 1950, her family immigrated to America. They were sponsored refugees and completed a year of service on a farm in Culpeper, VA. In 1952, they relocated to Pittsburgh on Polish Hill, she bore two more children and also worked at the H.J. Heinz Co., for 30 years. She still managed to keep an immaculate house and make wonderful Sunday dinners. Her family will miss her famous bread, wonderful baking, her sense of humor and her twinkling smile. RENZ JOSEPH PHILLIP Age 92, of Castle Shannon, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Laverne (Stumpf) Renz for 66 years; loving father of Linda (Michael) Gitt, Carol (Robert) Flanigan, Joseph (Linda) Renz, Jr., Mary Kay (James) Gianoutsos, Suzanne (John) Makrinos, Stephen (Julie) Renz, and the late Diane (James, surviving) Makrinos; treasured grandfather of 22; proud great-grandfather of 16 and three on the way; caring brother of Elizabeth (the late, Frank) Edwards, Margaret (the late, Gus) Lannon, Paul (Mary Ann) Renz, the late Leopold Renz and Bernard (Leona, surviving) Renz; son of the late Leo and Kreszentia Renz. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a carpenter by trade and owner of Renz Brothers, general contracting. Joseph enjoyed playing the harmonica and was an avid outdoorsman, including fishing and hunting. Most of all, Joseph loved spending time with all of his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS.
