McATEER KATHERINE Katherine, age 95, died August 4, 2015, of natural causes. Katherine lived several lifetimes in her 95 years on this earth. Born in Majerka, Czechoslovakia in 1914, she lived and worked on the family farm until she was 15 and then crossed the Atlantic to join her family who had immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA to work in the steel mills. As a first generation American, Katherine worked jobs as a nanny and housekeeper until she met the one true love of her life, John McAteer. The two were wed in 1946, and lived in Pittsburgh while John worked in the auto industry and Katherine worked as a seamstress. After they had their daughter, Susan, they moved to Oakdale, PA. John remained in Oakdale until his passing and Katherine lived there until 2001. A devout member of Hope Lutheran Church, Katherine is remembered as a petite lady with a big smile and infectious laugh. Her home was open to everyone who knew her, and gatherings with family and friends were often highlighted by her cooking with ingredients fresh from her garden. A humble woman with a servant heart, no one left her home feeling unloved. In 2001, Katherine moved to Newport News, VA to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. She was active at the Newport News senior center and continued tailoring clothes for new friends she made in the area. She is survived and lovingly missed by her daughter, Susan Bott; grandchildren, Bill and Jana Bott and Phillip and Kathy Edwards; and great- grandchildren, Jonathan and Jaelie Bott. Friends will be received Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the THOMAS - LITTLE FUNERAL SERVICE, INC., 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800), where Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
