IRELAND WILLIAM R. Age 95, of Hermitage, PA, on Sunday, September 17, 2017. Born on February 25, 1922 in Dormont, PA, to the late Daniel and Isabelle Ireland. Preceded in death by his wife, Marjory (Kennedy) Ireland. Beloved father of William Ireland, Richard Ireland and wife Debbie; brother of Jean Sweeney; cherished grandfather of four; adored great-grandfather of five. William retired from Mellon Bank as an Asst. V.P. and supervisor of the loan admin. dept. He graduated from Robert Morris School of Accounting and the University of Wisconsin, Graduate School of Banking. He was a Mason for over 60 years and a member of the John A. Brashear Lodge #743 F&AM and a life member of the Consistory Scottish Rite in the valley of Pgh. and the Shriners International Syria Temple. He enlisted in the Air Corp. Cadets in 1942 and received his commission of 2nd Lt. in 1943 and awarded his pilot wings in the US Army Air Corp. At Bill's request all arrangements are private. MURPHY DONNA L. (DROST) Age 74, of Valencia, died peacefully at home on September 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family after a five and a half year battle with soft tissue cancer. Born May 26, 1943, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Kish) Drost. Beloved wife and best friend for 48 years of David L. Murphy; dear sister of Patricia and her husband, Dave McCormick and Dennis Drost. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Donna graduated from Carnegie High School in 1961, worked for Westinghouse Credit Corporation for ten years as a secretary in Pittsburgh and Virginia and finished her career as a legal secretary for McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP in Washington, D.C., retiring on November 1, 2009. CHATAK RICHARD PAUL “DICK” Age 90, of Mt. Lebanon, on Monday, September 18, 2017, while a patient at Asbury Heights, following complications from a spinal injury due to a fall sustained in February. Son of the late Smaile and Susanne (Kraysci) Chatak; husband for 35 years of the late Eva D. (Maglich) Chatak; father of Linda S. and Diane M. Chatak, both of New Kensington and David R. Chatak, of Lower Burrell; brother of Elmer Chatak, of Bethesda, MD, the late Emma Bacher, Julia, and Smaile Chatak. Richard attended Har Brack High School, Brackenridge, and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, including in the post-World War II occupation of Japan, with a rank of Private First Class. COFFIN PHILIP TRISTRAM, Jr. Age 89, in Nantucket Cottage Hospital, of Upper St. Clair, PA and Nantucket, MA, on Friday, September 15, 2017. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, Phil (also known as Wink, Papa Winkie and PW) served as an Army staff sergeant in Korea prior to the war, graduated from Rutgers University and had a long career with ALCOA in Pittsburgh. An artist from a young age, Phil took great joy in painting landscapes and seascapes as well as wood carving birds. He enjoyed golfing at St. Clair Country Club, attended Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church in Mt. Lebanon and was a whaling history enthusiast. WILKINS ARLENE CYNTHIA (PATTERSON) Age 79, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Sewickley and Moon Township, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, at St. John's Specialty Care, Mars, PA. She was born in Baltimore, MD on October 20, 1937, to the late Nine Patrick and Alice (Martin) Patterson. As a young girl, she had lived in Strasburg, PA until 1965, when she made Pittsburgh her home. On December 24, 1997, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ettson Wilkins. Cherished mother of Delbert (Betsey) Wilkins of Chicago, Justine (Holly) Wilkins of Rochester, Patrick (Kristen) Wilkins of Charlotte, NC and the late Deirdre Wilkins (passed July 28, 2006); proud grandmother of Tad, Gabriella, Kai, Gavin, Brianna, McKenzie, Landon, Corbin, Gage, Rowan and Kali. Arlene obtained her BS in Sociology from Wilkes College and her Master's in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. Her lifelong quest as a learner continued with additional courses at the University of Pittsburgh. For 30-plus years, Arlene was a social worker at Allegheny General Hospital which was not just a profession but her vocation. Never wanting her clients to be alone over the holidays, she would open her home by inviting them to be with her family. She was a well-educated and respected Social Worker, who led by example, not only for her profession, patients, but her children. Her children knew her set of rules and her stern side if not adhered, along with her ongoing teaching of life-lessons. Her words of wisdom and life-lessons will remain and live on, in her children's hearts and minds, forever. KEARNS MILDRED MARIE “MIG” (BORDEN) Mildred Kearns, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Orlando, Florida. Born May 27, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mildred was a hat model at Kaufmann's department store when she met the love of her life on a blind date, William A. Kearns, Jr. “Bill”. They married in 1947 and had two children, William and Kathleen, and lived in Lexington, KY, Wayne, NJ, and Staunton, VA, before returning to Pittsburgh, PA where Mildred and Bill remained for the majority of their years. Mildred and Bill loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips across the country in their motorhome along with yearly trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, where Mildred especially loved to listen to the sound of the pounding surf. She loved to play board games, which became a tradition at family gatherings. She was an avid gardener, had a beautiful yard, and was a dedicated member of the Ingomar Garden Club for many years. Mildred was very devoted to her family, and loved her roles as wife, Mom, Gram, and GiGi. She is survived by her son, William G. Kearns and his wife, Laura; daughter, Kathleen M. Beckman and her husband, Gary; grandchildren, Gary G. Beckman III, Jenna M. Elliott and her husband, Christopher, William A. Kearns III, Kate K. Carter and her husband, Joseph, and Patrick B. Kearns and his wife, Sonia. She is also survived by her adorable great-grandchildren, Riley M. Elliott and Parker A. Elliott. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, as well as by her sisters and brothers. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, where Mildred's ashes will be forever reunited with those of her beloved husband. KELLY DANIEL F. On March 31, 1951, Corporal Kelly was killed in action as prisoner of war in the People's Republic of North Korea. He was 19 years old and a resident of the North Side. At the time of his passing he was survived by his parents, James and Irene Kelly; and brothers, Eugene Reese, Frank, James “Red”, George “Hammy”, Charles, John, Edward, Howard “Mux” Kelly. Today he is survived by many loving nieces and nephews who are proud to fulfill their father's wishes in bringing Uncle Danny home. The family would like to thank the extraordinary efforts of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency for their tireless effort to bring home every American soldier. McGONIGLE JOHN WILLIAM John William McGonigle died peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017, with his wife of 54 years by his side. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, he was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, friend, and professional colleague. He will be dearly missed by many, many people. It was a life well lived. John was the Vice Chairman of Federated Investors, where he had worked for 51 years. John loved Federated and considered his colleagues among his dearest friends. They were an integral part of his life. He loved to travel and play golf, but his true love was his wife, three children, their spouses, and 11 grandchildren. He laughed, played, and traveled with them every chance he got. John had a relationship with his family, including his grandchildren, that was exceptional. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, Duquesne University, and Duquesne University Law School, John McGonigle never ceased to focus on what he could do to help his family, his friends, and the Catholic organizations that were a part of his life. He was truly a great man that positively impacted a lot of people. Surviving Mr. McGonigle is his wife, Mary Ita McGonigle; his three children, Kevin (Susan) McGonigle, Christine McGonigle (Stephen) Newcamp, and Michael (Kathleen) McGonigle; his sister, Dolores Sansonetti and brother, James T. McGonigle; and his eleven grandchildren, John Kevin McGonigle, Mary Davis McGonigle, William James McGonigle, Robin Joseph Newcamp, Brigid Elise Newcamp, Gavin Charles Newcamp, Declan Henry Newcamp, Claire Maureen McGonigle, Sean Michael McGonigle, Ryan Michael McGonigle, and Kelly Ann McGonigle. John McGonigle was predeceased by his parents, Henry J. McGonigle and Madeline I. McGonigle. Friends received at MCCABE BROS., INC. STOIOFF HILDA IDA (BARTOLI) Age 90, of Donora, PA, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 23, 2017, with her family present. Hilda was born in Donora on September 15, 1927, the next to the youngest of five daughters born to the union of Anthony Bartoli and Margaret (DeSantis) Bartoli. Hilda was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church and a graduate of Donora High School, Class of 1946. She was a home- maker who loved to cook and bake. She hosted large family gatherings year round, which included the annual Christmas Eve Vigilia as well as a recent weekend long celebration of her 90th birthday. Hilda will be remembered fondly for her wit and wisdom, generosity, unbridled loyalty to family and friends, as well as for her willingness to extend a welcomed hand to a stranger or anyone in need. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Babe" Stoioff; and sisters, Antoinette Bidzila, Margaret Vogini and Evelyn Jean Doziski. She is survived by sons, Robert of Elizabeth, Richard and Cinci (Astle) Stoioff of Donora and David and Madonna (Mouyard) Stoioff of Northbrook, IL; grandsons, Lucas (Karolina) Stoioff of Chicago and Beau Stoioff of Donora; a sister, Josephine Raguso of Canandaigua, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was a concrete mason by trade and belonged to the local union.
